It’s doubtful that prospective M5 customers will be intimidated by a few extra light bulbs. It’s the rest of the car that matters.

When I ordered my i5 M60, it was an option. You can also turn it off in iDrive. Welcome lights only use the headlights and that is purchased through the Connected Drive Store. I expect it to look similar, but the rear end will have tail pipes, so definitely distinguishable from the i5. It should have different wheels because reducing drag won’t be an issue.

I know there are a lot of people who don’t like the new 5, but it looks great in person. It doesn’t photograph well. I think it will look amazing.

The did have the laser lights it just wasn't approved here in the USA.

grill light controller

Actually you simply "think" grill on or off. You can upgrade to the disco version that flashes 8 different colors. After the $975 uncharge you simply think: grill disco. Kind of steep but you get a free sound track for Boogie Nights that plays inside the cabin, out side the cabin or both.

I think that BMW did this glowing grill just to get the attention away from those imo bad looking KIA drls.

I LOVE IT and cant wait for the launch.
Many still hate it, me included, but still ordered a car in a dark color to minimize.

Not sure the M5 is the demographic for lit kidney grilles. This is reminiscent of the MB C-class Benz logo on the grille that lit up. Tacky/cheesy af and probably appealed to a much younger buyer who wanted people to know they were driving a Benz. I’m sure it’s on every product line nowadays…either way, hard pass on the look.

So I guess this 86’s any modification to the grille with this generation? No carbon, no gloss black, no body painted creations? Shame.

Even the G8X allowed for grille mods which has always been a BMW staple and a great personalized touch. And to be honest- the popular option that most m3/m4 owners go for on their builds makes the world of difference on that car.

Not a fan of the lit up option at all. I’ve seen them on the i7 models around town and it’s tacky (my opinion).

I also can’t recall the last time a cars reveal was so back and forth.

One picture says “omg I can’t wait” the next one says “ew wtf are they thinking”

Never have I felt so confused prior to an M5 release. Time will tell- whatever time is left.
