Porsche has to be commanded for doing hybrid with small weight penalty
992.2 GTS roughly 100 pounds more than previous which is great
1000 pounds extra is a lot of weight

Porsche went a different method

On the GTS they delete the rear seats and cut weight via other factors, to limit the net effect.

Also the GTS battery is nill as its only 1.9kwh and I don't think it provides any EV range purely for power dumping.

M5 is 14.8kw and has EV range. Different intended audience and platform makeup.

The 911 platform doesn't have the space for a large pack and EV range. Thus a different approach and other tech applications and a larger price increase resulted.

Again 911s will always sell even with the 16k 24 vs 25 gts price increase

I think the 911 hybrid approach should be what bmw mirrors for the next gen m3

Agree, if adjusted for inflation the f90 vs g90 never mind the net costs to make the g90 is pretty good value... apples to apples

The execution is personal taste

The problem with this car isn’t necessarily the weight, let’s put the weight aside for now..

This M5 doesn’t feel like an M5 anymore
- No soft close doors
- No Full leather option
- No Upgraded sound system (Yes it’s B&W, but it’s the non upgraded version)
- No competition
- No double slotted kidney grills anymore which every M car has and still does.
- No Fender vents (Again.. every single M car had and still does expect this M5)
- No carbon diffuser with the carbon fiber package
- Starts at $120,000 and is missing all of these packages when the previous M5 started at 109k and had all of those options apart of full leather and speakers as standard.
- No massaging seats (HOW ITS A 120k
CAR)
- Slower than the f90.

I don’t think the weight is what disappointed the bmw enthusiasts, maybe it’s the fact that it just doesn’t feel like a geniue BMW anymore it just doesn’t have that M5 touch i don’t know how to explain it. The interior looks so cheap. No nice stitching on the upper door cards, no leather underneath the glovebox area, it looks cheap, over all i’m going to keep my f92 M8 coupe and just purchase a low mileage f90 m5.

BMW should put the big screen in a G30 and take our money. I’m 6 months in with the G60 and it’s just not the same for me. Big screen is nice but all the other stuff is just downgrades from the previous generation.

I saw a 750 yesterday with the frozen paint about 2 years old. The paint was peeling or was gone over about 90% of the car. It looked like a war vehicle.

So BMW wants to charge $140k for a car with a tacked on ipad like I would expect from a Yugo. You won't get my $ anymore BMW.

Very boring presentation. We already know what he’s talking about, like the M1 and M2 buttons, shifters and so on.

Tell me something interesting.

Car looks good but too heavy and big for a performance sedan.

Time to get the current generation M3 before it gets even more bloated in the next generation.

- Why no Premium Sound System option?
- Why no Soft Close Doors?
- Why no bespoke Sideview Mirror Design for the G90 M5 (it's same exact design from the i5 M60)?
- Why no bespoke launch color for the G90?
- Why no massaging seat functions?
- Why no fender grilles (there's still a little bit of room to design one on the fender even with the electrical plug-in door in the way)?
- Why do the M5 front seat designs look so close to the G80 M3 seats?

I would like to tell the M CEO, that yes these are things M5 customers want. Weight aside, we still care about the other things that make an M5, an M5.
The answer to all of these questions is the same: cost cutting. How else is BMW going to cut production costs by 25%? Also, these seats look very similar to the F90 seats IMO.

The new M2 doesn't have side vents either. Cost cutting IMO. I totally agree about the interior. Check out the interior of an i5 yet? Big step back from prior generation.

Valid, but that doesn't account for the cost cutting in the interior and the removal of previously standard options.

I dunno man I raw dogged my frozen black M8gc for 3 years, no ppf and regular car wash every week and the paint looked legit legit after 36 months. You must have seen a car not being taken cared of.

It’s no surprise that you saw an ugly car

But the real question is, why are you here?

It depends if you look at the Chinese spec 5 vs US spec 5 the materials are different and steps up . I think it's a bmw country and market research issue.

People that want XYB will always pay, everyone that are on these forums aren't the bulk of bmw sales. If they offered a 3.5k upgrade audio and sourced it out, how many people would buy it across the 5 series line up.

If everyone walked into bmw that bought x and said I want a cooling glove box bmw would do it. Some of these options people are up in arms about may not have a high take up rate or they find that the bulk of people don't use them thus won't miss it.

It's like bmw is going to bring the m5 wagon if nobody buys it and they can't justify the costs to make it, it will be a one and done.

Bmw could always go Porsche and belike we have light standard equipment but everything is now an option and is a premium.

Right, but I’m not talking about optional equipment. Have you been inside the new 5er, yet? It’s a downgrade in material quality and standard features.

Edit: clarification that I mean US vs US 5ers.

I could be wrong but at the end of the day BMW is moving to this Neu Klasse platform. The PHEV stuff is likely a stop gap in between. BMW is not likely overly invested in something that straddles the two long term. As a result you end up with a car that doesn’t slaughter the previous generation.. but they don’t want to invest even more R&D or raise the car’s cost more to accomplish it? Would be wild if there was no LCI and they just dropped it. Eg there’s talk of the XM dying off soon..

Basicslly I kind of wonder if this is here just to bridge the gap to 2027 or so.. and your future is that platform and this PHEV stuff is no longer developed.
