Isn't the RS 6/7 supposed to be a new gen next year?

Yes, while the wheels on the performance edition were 44 pounds lighter, the brakes on the carbon ceramic version are 75 pounds lighter and 20mm bigger (440mm vs 420mm). So a “regular” rs6 with ceramics, is actually lighter than a performance version. You cannot get the ceramic brakes on the performance version (at least in the US). They were no longer an option after 2023.

This is the final year for the RS6.
Next year, the entire A4 and A6 lineups go full electric. Audi will be using even numbers for the EVs and odd numbers for the ICE. The current ICE A4 will become the A5 next year, and the A4 will be an EV version. The RS6 goes away and will come back in 2026 as the RS7 Avant. |

If they want to feel like they got something over on you. Buy all the wheel protection, prepaid maintenance, dealer warranty, etc. Almost all of those programs can be cancelled for a refund within 30 days. |

The RS6 was going to be my next car but I’m now more interested in the M5 Touring. The RS6, while analog and epic, is just getting a little long in the tooth. The interior is really dated.

It’s interesting - when I got into the Audi I felt the same. But having the permanent HVAC controls is nice. One thing that’s been driving me nuts in my BMWs is the location of the AC vents due to the huge screen (and the compressors seem weak). My Merc is like an ice box by comparison.

Coming from a 2023 S class, you are going to be disappointed with Audi. I know because I spent 2 months driving a 2023 S580 every day before getting a 2023 Audi S8. When I got into the S8 for the first time it was like Fisher-Price My First Car compared to the S580. The tech on the S580 was at least 10 years ahead of the Audi. |

Audi & BMW guy for the last several years, too many to list, few F90's, '21 RS6 Avant w/ ceramics, '21 RS7 w/o them. I bought the RS7 new and I still love the way that car sounded w/ the stock sport exhaust. The RS7 did an 11.48 @ 119 bone stock in any conditions, was just a fun for what it was. Swapped into my first F90 M5C from that and it felt like a rocket in comparison, 10.84 @ 127 and it does that thing my X6M still does now where barely pressing the throttle on the fwy isn't much fanfare but you're suddenly bus lengths away from the thing behind you and your brain doesn't quite compute.
Picked up the '21 RS6 barely used and those ceramic chompers are legendary, have never owned a car that stopped so well, and they only got better the more you worked them. Flashed an APR 91 octane tune on that one and it brought it to within a knifes edge of F90 performance that felt juuuust right. I'd honestly still own it if it weren't for the whole 48V BSG disaster (search the C8 forums), my car had already had it replaced once and it was a ticking time bomb that is hard to justify as your only vehicle. It's covered for a 7 year unlimited mile warranty at least, but that doesn't help you if it dies on you in the middle of nowhere, let alone the uncertainty of coverage if you tune them. Interior is also starting to look dated, so the C8 has run its course for me. Presently in the '24 X6M with the S68 and a JB4 and I love it, feels almost like I'm getting the G90 but I get to keep the sound system, soft touch, and massaging seats, heh. I'd definitely swap this for a barely used G90 Touring in a year or two if the reviews stay positive. I'm too used to a hatch and useable trunk space anymore, so it's compelling given how well the X6M still handles at 5300lbs and the center of gravity so high up compared to where it will sit in the G90 with the battery packs.

Guessing we won’t move off 60/40 in favor of the M5.
BMW could have dropped the alpina v8 engine setup from the xb7 in here and forgone the hybrid, notwithstanding the looks that car would have blown the Audi out of the water and been lighter. |

And that would have been a great decision. The rs6 is straightforward and fast and gorgeous. After the issues I’ve seen with the XM drivetrain, the weight and looks of the M5, there’s no way I’d buy one. But that’s just me. Looking forward to the RS7.

A 60/40 split in a BMW forum is actually rather interesting. The think the F90 would have probably had an 80% or higher response rate in the same poll if it were posted 5 years ago.

I would think you’re probably correct in that assessment. That’s on bmw for giving away their customers with this hybrid stuff. They should be making full ice M stuff. Make the heavy hybrids for the customers trust but the regular stuff and don’t care. Then make the full ev stuff for those that want that.

From a US perspective this hybrid M approach is ridiculous and has been from the start with the XM. When it crashed up pikes peak even with gutting the car 200 kg of weight reduction it said all we needed to know about the state of M. I’d rather buy a Porsche and at these prices you can. Or an RS6/RS7 |

Yup. I purchased 3 new cars in the past 11 months, all of them Audi. Turned in 2 BMWs in the process, as well. They definitely lost out on my business with their new designs. |
