0-60mph Ranges 10+ seconds - Lethargic 9 - 10 seconds - Adequate 8 - 8.9 seconds - Peppy 7 - 7.9 seconds - Quick 6 - 6.9 seconds - Fast 5- 5.9 seconds - Very Fast Less than 5 seconds is EXOTIC territory I am sure that there will be plenty of debate about this, but anybody who has read automotive magazines over the past twenty years will probably agree with the above save for some minor variations. I suspect most of the debate will come from the younger guys on this site that seem to believe that if a car accelerates slower than a Viper then it is slow. Ward talked about a 911 and a Vette. Hey Ward these are exotics bud. You could argue that the Vette isn't but by American car standards it is. A 350Z is not an exotic, it is a very fast (see above) car with great looks at a hell of a price point. A great value. I have met young guys that drive Civics with loud exhausts that think their cars accelerate like exotics. They don't. These guys simply have a distorted inaccurate view of reality. A BMW 330 accelerates in a range considered Fast and the 325 Quick. May I ask what more could be expected from an entry level sports sedan? Stop trying to make these vehicles something they are not, accept them for what they are and just be realistic. I don't expect my quick sports sedan to outrun a very fast Nissan sports car. GEEEEEZ |

as been discussed and pointed out by many posters previously, there are many many factors that affect the real world 0-60 time, driver skill, weather condition, manual or auto?, are you fat or not, was the guy fat or not? was he trying to race you?...etc etc
so I would take those street encounters with a tiny grain of salt, unless it was planned. Quote:

Doesn't the fact the 350z being a coupe, thus making it lighter, make it seem like the logical choice in winning this one?

I'm pretty much on board with you here, I just like to get all worked up when people are all positive on some mediocre car (350Z) I mean the 350Z's not even fast for the money... (can you tell I wouldn't be caught dead in one???):rocks: |

325er, I agree w/ those adjectives for those numbers compared to cars within the past 20 years, but I'd say after the last five years or so you can shif all of the numbers 0.5 seconds downwards to describe the speeds...overall great description though. It's crazy to believe that for roughly 35k a car can reach 0-60 in under 5 seconds (Pontiac GTO, STI, EVO, etc.). And here I thought a few years ago how unlucky I was to be born in an era where the "muscle cars" have passed us for mundane A to B cars....how things have changed!

Honestly, a 350z 300HP versus a 330i 255HP would be neck and neck. The 350z does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and the 330i in 5.9 seconds (yeah, yeah BMW says it does it in 6.1 but all car magazines say it's between 5.7 and 6.0). So the 350z might pull away the tiniest bit but it would be really close. Not sure who would win past 60MPH though.

nissan 350z is sub 6sec car for the century sprint. the diff between you and the z is about 0.5 sec to 100 kmph .you can match him if the z driver shifts poorly in his manual car but if we were betting, my money will still be on the Z to beat your car! z drivers love to mod their engines, so don't take it too hard.

nissan 350z
~3400 lbs. AT 287 hp @ 6,200 rpm 274 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm MT 300 hp @ 6,400 rpm 260 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm BMW 330i 3450 lbs. 255@6600 hp 220@2750 lb-ft eh, different class of cars but here some relevant numbers. also i should point out nissan/infiniti are still using the old SAE method so the numbers are a bit bloated. naturally, the larger displacemnet of the 350z should have more torque but it kicks in a bit later than the 330. so in my opinion itll be a pretty damn close race. driver skill should be the x-factor. but than again who cares. im happy in my pretty-quick luxury sport sedan rather than a not-so-quick sport coupe. but still props to nissan for bringing an exciting car oh and props to BMW for having such a damn fine enginered 3 litter. look at those numbers and mpg to boot |
