Why in god's name would you want turbos on your 911 unless it's a TURBO?

I know, torque and power and torque and power but urrrrrrrrgh it's just another car at that point.

Someone above suggested 997 GTS, now I am a huge fanboy of the GTS, really would love one but prices have gone absolutely insane vs a nicely specced 'S', they make zero sense.

Random idea, Alfa 4C, dead set loos like it wants to fellate you.

I got my “undesirable” heavily optioned $134k MSRP PDK convertible 997 GTS with 15k miles and Fidelity Platinum warranty for $82k in July. There’s deals out there just need to find them. Most people’s asking prices are 10-20% over actual market value. Offers buy cars, not asking prices. Personally I’d rather have the top down option than the better looking coupe, so if it saved $5-10k that’s even better to me.

Would love an R8 - but I'd need the older gen with a manual.

Needless, laid the groundwork with the wife. Planted the seeds, let her know the costs. Once she said no and was done laughing, I wisely moved on to a different topic. Takes a little time, not my first trip around the block.
My wife didn't believe me on how insane NEW R8 pricing is so I showed her. She almost had a heart attack.

They are constantly listed on BAT & C&B.

My friend that had one years ago is the whole reason I want one. Wish he never let me drive it LOL. He paid $36k for it. I forget what year. No, it was not a problem car. Clean title car with no problems etc.

I always wondered how they could make these insane numbers...but then I learned about the required maintenance. Make sure to factor that in.

so many great cars under $100K

Most of my top choices would be mid engine with manual transmission

Gen 1 R8 V8 (biased)

Gen1 NSX (biased)

981 GT4/GTS/Spyder

Lotus Emira/Evora/Elise

AM Vantage

Most of these listed above are most likely to retain their value if not appreciate in value....

there are many many other amazing cars you can easily get that will be well sorted and low miles for under $100K

The hunting of one is one of the funnest parts of buying one.

Happy hunting

Just saw this morning that the dealership up the road got this in. I'd be willing to do a test drive and inspection if needed. While I'd jump on this, I just got my vert in May...not ready to give it up.

For me - already have the flat 6 that makes all the noise. This would be the daily, so looking for some creature comforts...and not have the same exact interior to what I already got. Wouldn't necessarily turn down a 991.1, just may need to update that front end a little.

Besides, wouldn't I be replacing turbos with turbos? I already got it listed in my sig below. Who want's to go through the hassle of changing that?

I wouldn't do anything until something blips on your radar and gives you that 'I MUST have that RIGHT NOW' feeling. Just my $.02 of course, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

That's a LOT of money for a PDK cab, and I say that as a PDK cab owner. Your miles are very low but a PDK convertible 'S' would run you about 30K less with a few more miles.

I say all this as a bitter man who was shopping for a GTS in the 50K range in 2019 and felt they were too expensive and passed

In the current market it’s a good deal. Dealers are asking more for cars with 3x the mileage. The market is what it is. A 15k mile 997.2 S cab would be in the upper 60s/low 70s, where are you finding a $50k 997.2 S cab without 60k+ miles on it? I just looked in the entire country and there’s one with 43k miles for $58k that’s 3 years older and the others are all listed at $75k+ with 40k+ miles. There are 0 for sale with less than 30k miles. Triple the mileage isn’t “a few more miles” - it’s triple lol.

I too would like to go back to the time where a manual 997 GTS with low mileage was an $85k car but that ain’t happening.

It’s really not much more than maintaining or servicing a German car. I’ve had 4 Ferraris and 0 major expenses. Annual service was $800-1200. I spent more on repairs on my E92 M3 than all of the Ferraris I’ve had combined. Just set aside $10-20k in case of emergency. If you can afford a $100k car but not a $10k repair your finances need improvement before buying the $100k car.

It sounds like you’re equating the service work of a 355 or older car with that of a 430 which is not correct. Engine doesn’t need to be dropped for service on anything after 355 and even those are only every 5 years.

Agree that 15K miles raises the bar but you're paying a lot for super low mileage. There are two .2 Aqua Blue 'S" PDK Cabs in the low 50's at 36K and 46K miles. Likely talk em down to 50 even.

I realise the market speaks so add GTS and take 20K miles off and it is what it is but man, near 6 figres for a PDK makes me sit upright.

You ready for this?

In 2019 I sat in a white on black, full leather, manual GTS cab with 40,000KM (25K miles). Again, stick. List was $89K CAD and I passed thinking they would come down. Today that fetches $125K CAD.

Well they aren't making any more 997's so getting a mint low mileage car that isn't beat up comes at a premium. That car you linked has a terrible spec with the gray interior, plastic dash, base seats, no sport exhaust, no SD steering wheel, and it has an accident on the carfax. Front bumper drilled for license plate is a non-starter for me. Also at a shady independent dealer I wouldn't trust. $109k MSRP vs $134k MSRP.

I've owned a 997.2 4S before and driving the GTS is like night and day by comparison, I was shocked at how much of a difference there was in the driving feel. It's not just some CL wheels, the engine and throttle response feel completely different than the S/4S.

I looked at plenty of coupes with 40kish miles in the mid-$60k range a few years ago, now those would be $90-95k. Manual coupes with 20k miles were $90-100k before, now they are selling for $140k+. I almost bought a PTS one with low mileage for $115k a few years ago, that would probably be $160-170k now (which seems insane).

Sounds exactly like the discussions and approach I have with my wife. I have been working on her for several months for a Spyder RS. A couple days ago she randomly blurted out, “i know you will be getting that car in Feb!”. I just smiled and didn’t say a word.

I learned long ago as a young salesman to shut up when you know you have made the sale.
