Looking forward to checking one out at my local dealer, even though I am not sold.

However, some company is going to make bank selling an aftermarket diffuser that covers the middle portion.

A local dealer who I didn't get mine from got their HEA M5. It looks so much better in person. Much more aggressive than I thought it would even though I'm not a fan of red. I'm guessing as people see it in person those who disavow it may change their mind.

Gotta be honest, I question the no interest folks here and can go pick one up from a dealer. This dealer said anything not sold is a HEA. I saw the order bank for the dealer I got mine from and it's 5 deep for sedan and 7 for touring. The dealer I saw this one at said they had 10 between sedan and touring in the order bank.

In 2019, BMW couldn't give these cars away. That's when people were getting $1200 a month leases on M5.

I don't disagree at all with your sentiment. Almost all cars don't hold their value. I'm sure you are very familiar with this owning a MS Plaid. We buy a car we like. At the end of the day if I wait a year I may be able to get 15k under MSRP. When you're spending 130k on the car why bother waiting.

all these lists are BS from the dealer
recent history lesson from the Covid days, shortage spiked artificial demand and a lot of people started putting their names on lists for any hot car and this is over
but dealers are trying to extend the hype by telling people that I have x number of people on this car so you feel good about paying MSRP
I had 3 M5 and 2 of the three I ordered and both were 10 % under sticker
and for me to bite into this one I need that from dealer plus a chunk of rebates from factory and / or high RV with low money factor as the only way to get this car is lease
why? heavy rocks sink to the bottom
and hybrid technology will improve at a striking pace so IMO , everyone should lease these things otherwise financial hit will be significant

I actually have a screen shot of the dealer order bank for M5s so I'm fairly certain it's accurate unless they altered it.

Waiting on hybrid technology is similar to waiting on buying a new computer for the next chip. When that chip comes out a new one will be announced and it makes sense to wait again. You never buy.

The only cars that are getting decimated in value are EVs. Could be wrong but one day this will be deemed the last great M5, because it's the last one that isn't EV.

Great points, all. And if you can afford it now, why wait to buy a car like this until you've aged more?

That is partly true... however the 2019 M5 (107,695) cost less and MF was also less, the payment isnt exactly apples to apples. Today 25 base is 119,500. That's 11,805 increase and on a 36 month without interest your talking an increase of 328 dollars a month, without options, fees.

Also in 2019 most people where waiting for the Comp vs the base M5.

In time sub MSRP deals will come as inventory catches up with demand. However, 1200 dollars leases are a thing of the past as inflation has adjusted that up.

Below MSRP is already a thing. Got mine below MSRP. All signs point to less demand for this one than the F90 had at launch. Substantively, there are clear trade-offs for this car, but many of them are worthwhile.

I'm still planning on keeping my G99 order but there is an outside chance I keep the RS6 and pass on the M5 touring.
Given your location, this might be the car I picked up last night. Love it thus far, though there are little things I already miss from my post-LCI F90C.

Both of the local dealers I dealt with gave the impression at the outset that there would be no movement on price, or (in the case of one of them) that they were going to sell the M5 over MSRP. Hold the line; I've had two F90s (one bought at launch, and another, leased a few years later) that went ~$7k and ~$12k under MSRP, respectively in 2018 and 2021, and in both cases I had to venture pretty far to find one.

I went from finding no local dealers with an available build slot from 2023 through September 2024, to multiple cars being available locally. This is a good car, but demand is not what BMW anticipated and they have yet to adjust by offering incentives and rebates. You can get ahead of that by closing well below MSRP, or you can wait for manufacturer incentives to kick in (might be as early as December).

It's really unbelievable. My dealer's first car that I passed on at msrp over a week ago still sits unsold. They drove it to our local car meet today to try and sell it. Unfortunately they parked it next to an F90 so that didn't help at all. Literally no one in town wants this thing at sticker.

dbru I'd reach out to them again and see if they'll drop their 'out of towner' markup ... they seem to be really motivated.

At this point I'm just gonna stick with my order that's waiting for a vessel to ship here. I really like the carbon black, black wheels and interior look. That diffusor when it's not paired with black throws me off.

Does anyone know if they offer rebates in Dec and I haven't taken possession of the car would I still qualify?

I was there and saw this car. It does look better in person. But man, it's a much bigger car than the F90. At least a couple inches taller and it's wide.

The good news for me is that I won't be in the market for another car until Sept 2026, so that leaves time to see how owners report on it. Also leaves me time to hopefully see what Audi does with the next gen RS7 Avant.

Still, the price on a loaded M5 is now in the realm of a loaded Merc S class, but the S class has so many more luxury features plus more back seat space and trunk.

i think its an odd scenario, where everyone is cramming into an m3 these days... the size and price point is better and its what an m5 was many years ago but w xdrive... so these things just wont sell like the peior gen unless someone wants a heavy luxurious tank which is what most performance car buyers dont want

Makes the F90 look so old. Like when the new M4 came out compared to the previous model. I like the new design language…

100% true.

I was speaking with my SA, who i've had a great and very upfront relationship for the past 10 years (he's been at the same dealership for 15 years now) and he pretty much told me exactly what you mention above.

He stated pretty much that *everyone* wants an M3 right now based on price point and options, to the point that there is (according to him) a 1 year waitlist to get into one. When I inquired about the M5, he basically said "Demand is nowhere near the same....you're looking at just a few months."

And i'm one of those buyers now that want that performance-minded heavy luxurious tank

If pricing improves (interest rates, rebates, incentives, etc) you should be able to qualify for them. Every BMW I've ordered, they lock me into what is available at that moment and then always received any pricing improvements for the better when signing the paperwork. Deal is not done until you agree to the terms on final paperwork.
