I went out of state and paid msrp. A pain but saved a few thousand dollars.

Why oh why piss your money away on a mass produced M5? Many have said MSRP is a few calls away? You will be like the dummies that paid over for the M3/4 or the Z06 Vettes. I mean, if your going to keep the car until the wheels fall off, then maybe it’s a bit easier to swallow but even then it’s dumb. Just wait a bit or like others have said, go to an out of state dealer and have it deli to your front door

By dollar per pound of car the new M5 is a steal compared with the previous one.

Pay MSRP.

Do a PDC Delivery and it doesn't matter where/who you buy the car from.

Found one a few hours away at lower than MSRP. Some dealers are greedier than others. Most of them would be happy with 5k over, but I wouldn't pay a dime over MSRP as a matter of principle.

Thousand Oaks wants 30k over MSRP, and I told him good luck. They'll be on their knees begging to sell those cars below MSRP in less than 6 months.

I live in California, if I did PDC Delivery in South Carolina, how would I charge my G90 M5 on the trip across the country?

Rumor has it there’s a gas engine in the G90. The better question is how you’d handle the 1200 mile break-in service mid-trip.

Reach out to Jon Shafer over at BMW of Santa Maria. It's a bit out of LA but Jon is no nonsense on pricing and allocation.

It’s even more steal if you add dollar per size including length and height LOL

Why would you need to charge your G90 M5? You know its a plug in hybrid and doesn't NEED to be charged, right? Anyone who needlessly charges a PHEV on a road trip would be a masochist in my book...

In any case, with a BEV, you should plan your route using ABRP (abetterrouteplanner.com). This is the way to plan any/all EV road trips. Never rely on the onboard Nav. Always know where you are going to stop, what services are at each stop, and where your next alternate might be further down the road. $0.02

I've done two EV PDC deliveries (ixM60 and i7M70) and driven them both home from SC to WI with multiple charging stops. Its not a problem...

I wouldn't worry about the 1200 mile break-in service. Long road trips are much easier on the break-in than a lot of around town stop-n-go driving. Focus on speed variations early in the trip and then just relax and enjoy the ride. You can schedule the service for your arrival back home without any worry.

I think you should research what happens when M owners don’t get their break-in service performed at 1200 miles.

I would take the 1,200 mile break-in service a little more seriously. Most dealer can do it while you wait.

BMW NA has given owners trouble with warranty claims when the 1,200 mile break-in service isn’t done “timely”. There was a story of someone who needed a new motor in an M car a few years ago. Initially this repair was declined by BMW NA because the owner waited until 2,200 miles to bring it in for the break-in service. Ultimately BMW NA replaced the motor under warranty, but not until a lot of lawyers and headache.

In the US a manufacturer is within their right to deny warranty coverage if a maintenance schedule is not followed. They do not have to prove explicitly that the maintenance variation caused the issue. They can even require that this work must be done at a BMW dealer since the service is included free of charge.

I don’t know this for a fact, but I have read that BMW will not let a vehicle be CPO’d if the break-in service was not done within the first 2,000 miles. The CPO checklist says that vehicles with “inconsistent or incomplete maintenance history” cannot be CPO’d.

So if shopping out of state more than 1,200 miles away you might want to plan on a pit stop.

Honestly I’m thinking, I’m A ok with some of these dealers asking over, will help hold value for our cars in the long run lol.. this also tells me that there are markets where people are dying to get these cars.

Part of break-in period is thermal cycling which is not happening if you go to long road trip which is obviously hours of non stop driving.
