Picked up a 24 GLE AMG, not disappointed in it being the family car.

My dad had an ES 350 for a couple of years, and put thousands of miles on it, as he preferred I drive him around. It was super quiet, super smooth, lots of nice features, and typical Toyota reliability. The only thing it lacked was much character, like you find in most BMWs. But he loved it, especially after I shit canned the run flats.

If I were to buy a Lexus, it would have to be something from their IS series.

There is a big difference between a stock CX-5 and a turbo CX-5 as far as power and sportiness. You need to look at a CX-5 Signature running premium gas.

I'm dead serious about a low mile, older LS430 or whatever.

Only tech you are missing is the screen for nav and calls and that is easily remedied with a quality after market solution paired with a quality reverse camera. Everything else "tech" is just intrusive nonsense. Lane departure or auto braking or relentless beeping because you don't have your belt on within 3 milliseconds of getting in the car. Who needs any of that?

I see so much bloat on modern cars, there's so much spent on utter shite we don't need and we are expected to pay $1K a month for it.

Drop $20K on a mint Lexus, spend 10K refreshing the tech and the suspension and keep 60 grand in your pocket.

New, TBH I feel the Range Rover is peerless. Like the proper one not the poor man's one. Super classy and super comfortable. Look for a CPO one if leases are rubbish?

Maybe if you lease, turn it in after 3 years, and live near a dealer. JD Power rated the Range Rover as the least reliable new car in 2023. The rating was worse in 2022. Maybe it will be improved for 2024. I don’t lease and the nearest dealer is 30 minutes away so I would not consider one.

You didn't specify price range but Audi E-Tron GT would be my choice for EV. It is IMO one of the best looking cars out there today.

If I was going Lexus (which I may if reliability/quality is a major factor), then I'd go for the LC.

I drove a new Range Rover Sport and honestly I loved it, did not love the lease price and have 0 desire to own one out of warranty and even a CPO scares me with depreciation and maybe end up stuck with it longer than CPO warranty. I think if they had good lease deal it would be my #1 choice, but not for what they want.

Anyways I ended up finding an ES 350 F Sport down the street so I went to check it out. I thought they had a regular none F Sport also which is what I really wanted to see but apparently was at some other location.

It was... not bad... unfortunately I think F Sport ruined it for me. Seats were bolstered which as a fat guy I don't like in most cars, especially not in big 4 door luxury sedan. Ride was decent, but again I think the F Sport may have made it a bit worse than it should be, still better than probably any of my current cars.

I will see if I can find an E 350 Luxury trim version. Also interested in checking out an LS 500 but those seem harder to find nearby, however price difference used is around $10-15k vs closer $30-40k difference new.

Ok so I tried to drive an ES350 and LS500. Lexus dealer had no LS500s and it was taking them for fucking ever to get an ES350 I could drive so I left.

Since I made the trip I went to a BMW dealer down the street. Drove a previous gen 540i and current gen 540 and i5 or whatever the EV version is.

Previous gen was meh. Honestly the seats were rather uncomfortable, felt bolstered even though I don't think they were. Had no sport packages or anything.

The new 5 series I did like how it drove quite a bit. However IMO the star was the i5 EV version. I feel the EV powertrain is better suited for this type of car. Even the suspension felt smoother in the EV, power was great and felt like having a nice big V8 in there. The ICE version was not bad either.

I think what may keep this out is the $$$$. I obviously didn't negotiate or anything since I'm not ready to buy, but I let them give me numbers before I leave anyways. If I recall MSRP was in the 70s for either. $4k down (did not give me $0 numbers) it was low $1k/mo for the EV and like $1.2k or $1.3k for the ICE. Can probably get the those down but still a bit to rich for my blood.

Another thing I did not like is that everything is an option with BMW so they basically had nothing with all the options I wanted AND cooled seats. We'll see...

Yeah I have no desire to pay that. If I somehow see a great lease deal on the i5 I would certainly consider it, but not buying any of those new. They had 1 CPO 540i which honestly was practically same price as new so no thanks. Still too new to have any good used ones out there I guess.

Asking any dealer for lease numbers is a waste of time. You need to know your numbers and make them an offer. Check leasehackr.

You can lease a Taycan Turbo S for less than that lol. I test drove a base Taycan yesterday and was surprised how fast it was and how much I liked it for a base. I test drove the turbo S a couple years ago and it’s rip your face off fast. The cross turismo is such a good looking car.

Trust me I didn’t necessarily want the numbers. They always just want to give me the numbers regardless. I just wanted to test drive it to see if I even liked it at all. I’ve been lurking on leasehackr for a while but never leased until our latest model 3 but it’s different with Tesla as there’s no haggling.

Here is a broker offering the i5 for half of what the dealer quoted you - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1577691931

Anyone calling a gas engine car an ICE has already made up his mind to get an EV. Lol.
If it has to be an EV go Lucid Air. They have better range than a Tesla, the look way better, but i'm unsure on price. (Looks to be in the $50k range)
If you loved the Cayenne and need a change for around 50-60k why not try an X3M? I hated mine, but it was a more than capable SUV that had blistering performance.

I drove an X3M for a week in Germany and did not like it. Drony exhaust and punishing suspension. Air suspension not available.

Cayenne air suspension on all trim levels is a sublime experience. GTS/Turbo/TGT power when you want it, air suspension for comfort when you want it. Porsche has the best overall total package of performance, comfort and luxury.

Here's a suggestion out of left field: PHEV. You sort of get the best of both worlds.
My real life experience. I opted for a Wrangler 4Xe. With the gov subsidies, my monthly payments after tax are like $360 on a $61K vehicle.
I use it as my shit weather vehicle and to get to work and back as it uses very little gas in that situation. I get over 700 miles of range on one tank of gas because my work is just a bit more than what the full EV range on it is (27 miles when its warm and 24 miles when its close to freezing).
I took it on a 3 hour drive to the inlaws and averaged about 28 mpg after my electric juice ran out on that tank of gas, it was over 400 miles including getting there and back and making a few trips to the office again.
You also get the added benefit of 375 hp and 470 lb. ft tq so the thing scoots. EV tq is great because its at 0 rpm, there feels like a mountain of it.
You also get the benefit of driving a Wrangler, on 33 inch mud terrains with lockers that can legit get you anywhere you want to be. Take it off road and its a blast.

Downsides are you're driving a vehicle with two solid axles on 33 inch mud terrains. And everything is made of plastic. It's cheap inside but also kind of great with the updated infotainment for 2024.

Leasing is the way to go as monthly payments are super cheap, along with the gas or lack thereof. I sure as shit wouldn't spend $61K on it though. That's just insane.

Just some food for thought. I guess you can also take a look at a Grand Cherokee 4Xe that is more comparable to the Cayenne in terms of driving experience than a Wrangler. They lease really well too.

Unpopular opinion... X5 is better all around than Cayenne. It's more comfortable, typically faster, and better practicality . It also looks better and is cheaper. Cayennes are nice, for a gussied up Q7.
