Would that be an extension of hiphop 'culture'? Like Larry, I have thought that gesture an acknowledgment of polite and respectful driving.

WTH gave you that idea????!!! Exactly what does flashing hazard lights have to do with hiphop? Man that came out of left field for me...:iono: I know you are "asking" but what was your reference point for the question?

Yeah ok...

Now in answer to the question....it could mean a few things...
If you are on the highway and the car in front you does it, it could mean a traffic jam or slowing traffic ahead. If that car has just passed you and you WERE racing with him/her or he/she THOUGHT you were racing then when they beat you they flash hazards to basically same "game over". In Germany they even turn on hazards when it is really foggy out...just gives other drivers something else to notice you by in reduced visibility. Without more info on the situation we cant really say what it meant in your situation...

I know that for many decades truckers have used a momentary flasher usage as a sign of thanks for letting them pass. I've occasionally done the same for truckers that let me by. Other than using them as what they were intended for, I didn't know of any other usage.

I thought of that too...buuut I wanted to say something...hiphop has its problems (its nothing like it was back in late 80's and early to mid 90's) but it ISNT the scapegoat of many things that it gets falsely labeled as being the "result" of...Gratuitous TnA, Blingage, and many curse words..yes....flashing your hazards...no....

i equate this with the ricer flyby as well. when driving normally (which in my case means somewhat aggressively), some other car flies by you and flashes his hazards to say "i beat you!!" regardless of whether or not you were actually racing him.

i always think to myself, "ok, what ricer message board is this "kill story" going up on this time?"

it's very distinguishable from someone putting on his hazards and leaving them on because his car is in trouble...

My response was based on both the OP plus an earlier post, from which, I inferred a hiphop reference. Excuse me for possibly confusing hiphop culture with ricer culture, if that's what happened.:iono:I can't believe I just uttered 'ricer'...

He said 'ricer' LOL... We are gonna turn back the hands of time for you yet! 4Ever young! LOL..no worries Surname!

Although most of us say it, that term 'ricer' in and of itself has negative undertones...actually i stand corrected...it is a "stereotype" adjective/noun. Sorry I was just thinking about it...and being a minority maybe I am more sensitive to those things...or maybe not..LOL:wink:

Ok I will fill in. It was definitely a "I have ruined you flash." I was at the light, there was an old Si to my left, and a car full of punk ass asians to my right in an old camry, 4 banger mind you. Light turns green and I eased into it, but the Si gunned it - he has been gunning it every light. The carmy full of punks gunned it too and played with the SI. (close to the dumbest thing I have seen)

Eventually I need to make a right at end of the street so I tuck behind the camry with more than 5-6 car length behind him, and those 4 punks in the car all decide to drop their cig butts consecutively (All 4 of them.) within 10seconds one after another. I am pretty certain they were trying to hit my car with the butts. I move back left but kept my distance. This is when the driver decide to taunt me more with the hazard. I ignored it. He figured I did not see it, and flicked them on again, and I ignored him again.

He got bored and eventually just drove. Pretty sure it was because his car wasn't broken and the weather was clear.

Its seems to me he was trying to goad you into racing NOT because he beat you. Were they being immature and childish..yeah maybe. But did we do anything any different when we were in our early 20's? (for those of us a bit older). Perspective is everything and getting the ENTIRE story puts an entirely different spin on things.
As for me I had on guy do something like that to me on the highway...I paced him and when he gave the thumbs up I hit it just one time for him to let him know I was not to be fracked with. After they caught up the 2 guys and the girl in the car looked over and with the hugest grins gave me a thumbs up:w00t:....You could tell they knew what car I had and just wanted to see it take off. Like I said we dont know what those others are thinking...so just calling them names and making assumptions is not necessarily making one any better than they are. That being said they are still morons for putting their cig butts out the window...that is littering!(though I cannot say I am innocent of ever doing that as well...try not to make it a habit though...but it aint going in my car!)

Yeah but the term 'ricer' is derived from the fact that a lot of the over the top tunes were done on Asian cars and that it started with Asians. Using the food that is a staple of many Asian diets to describe this trend is STILL stereotyping.

Should we call people with Caprice Classics with flipflop paint and 20+ inch chrome wheels 'chickeners'? Or low-ride small pickup trucks with hydraulics and aztec paint and small dubs 'beaners'? Nope...:iono:

There's a place and time for that. I knew he wasn't trying to race me because there would be no chance. I am pretty certain he was trying to irritate me, but just not certain on the meaning on flashing hazard.
