I just took delivery at Greer on Wednesday. I asked the assigned driving instructor what happens with the program cars when they time out. He said they are auctioned to dealers to resell to the public.

That was a pretty common issue with the prior gen.
The cooling system for this beast seems a little more robust than the F90. Coolers are HUGE and exposed.

Even the instructor was like "I'm not sure why BMW does this, or who would actually buy one of them knowing what we do to them."
Exactly… since they are never registered… they are sold as “new” 😂

Nice writeup, OP.

I got some G90 M5 seat time when I did the two-day M school at Thermal earlier this year. We only used it on the concrete skidpad, so the cars never made it over 25 mph. But in the hour I spent in the car, it was comfortable, composed, and pretty easy to drift.

I appreciate the response, but I’ve literally sold those ragged out cars 🙃. The week I went they sent the m2 fleet off to be sold at dealers and they were mega clapped out. Maybe thermal is different but we have had many performance center cars be sold after they were used there !

Did the customer understand what they were buying? Meaning, did you disclose how the cars were used?

Yesterday I had the opportunity to experience the G90 M5 at the BMW Performance Center in Thermal, CA. As someone who has owned and tracked the E39, F10, and F90 M5s, I was eager to see how the G90 would compare. My verdict: it’s impressive. The engineers have done a remarkable job making the car feel lighter than its specs suggest. The cornering, braking, and overall inputs felt very much in line with my F90 M5, and based on what I experienced, the rumored Nürburgring times are completely believable.

Because there were only two of us, we each enjoyed nearly an hour on the track. We cycled through every mode—electric, hybrid, dynamic, and dynamic plus. Despite all the chatter online about the G90’s weight, I found the car quick, composed, and free of excessive body roll. Given the EU regulations BMW had to engineer around, I think they absolutely nailed it.

Of course, the M5 has never been marketed as a pure track car—it’s designed for people like me: professionals who want a refined daily driver that’s comfortable for clients, yet thrilling enough for spirited canyon runs and the occasional track day.

If you get the chance, drive it yourself and let me know your impressions.
Are talking about the real tract, or the one they set up just outside the experience center?

Yes, it was also evident, 5k mile cars looked like they had 70-80k miles of wear on them. We did not want these cars either. They were often sold at far cheaper that real market value as well so people got “good deals” relative to mileage

Curious as doing a track day soon…what was their recommended setup for the track from the instructors? Assume everything was dynamic plus and maxed out? Did they have you turn on M track mode? Any use of boost function out of slow corners? Max brake regen?

The steering was comfort and everything was dynamic mode, and we did not use the boost function.
