After the first week it's really no big deal. It's the physical nature of doing it that is tough to get over. You're so use to doing it at certain times everyday it's part of a daily routine.

When I first started smoking I quit for 3 weeks just to prove to myself I didn't need it.

I'm still around it every once in a blue moon, and it's not hard for me to pass. If I didn't have randoms I would do it a couple times a month. I'd rather do it than drink.

Stay strong man. After this month is over you'll be like holy shit that month flew by.

Exactly! This is how I feel. It's just more of a personal thing. I'm asking myself: Do I have the discipline to deny myself something that I love and have easy access to? So far, yes.

And I agree, I'd rather rip some mad nug rather than drink, although beer pong is hard to beat occasionally.

If you had no dependency there would be no challenge at all and thus no point to even starting this thread. I don't mean to say you are an addict, b/c of the negative connotations w that word, but I was 18 or 19 once and thought oh yeah marijuana isn't addictive at all... as did most of my friends, now we are all much older and know better (still smoke occasionally, just never falling into that daily habit again).

I'm not sure how much you actually know about social drugs since you lumped MDMA, LSD and meth together. MDMA is awful for you but non-addicting. Meth is awful for you and extremely addictive. LSD has never been proven to be bad for you and is also non-addicting. You say weed isn't a drug, but it really is a drug... as is alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, etc. If it truly had no addictive properties I wouldn't know more than a couple of folks that have gotten addicted to cigarettes and coffee as they quit smoking herb. I used to think just like you, just keep smoking every day for the next 4 years and you will eventually feel the need to get out of the fog.
I feel like bud is no more addicting than chocolate, ice cream or any other kind of treat.

It's a natural plant, and the only thing that can cause addiction is a lack of discipline imo. I would say it's fair to equate the situation to a fat person that loves candy. They can stop, but it depends on the person, not upon the substance.

I only said bud was a social thing, not any of those others I mentioned. And I didn't know MDMA wasn't addicting. Never tried it, or any of the others. Don't plan on trying em either.

good luck man. i agree that it has to do with the person and not the substance. i have as much of a craving for this little restaurant that i know of in Germany and the cordon bleu they made as i do for a couple of rips on my 2 footer. so tell me this: is pork, cheese, ham and gravy addictive?? i smoked for about 4 or 5 years and then ended up having to stop because of my new job. i stopped cold turkey and proved to my self and a few others who knew me but were skeptical that its not addictive. that being said, do i miss it? absolutely! as a side note, i think that tasks that you know are able to be completed quickly and efficiently while high (and prob with a little more motivation) but it is the learning of new information which is harder while under the influence.

First of all, you're SMOKING it. I'm not an expert, but it's the smoke itself that does about 99% of the damage to your body. That said, weed kills your brain cells. It wipes out your ambitions and aspirations (some will argue it does the opposite for them. If so, you're still charring up your lungs). Think about the amount of money you're spending on it. Think of all the paranoia that's associated with it (will I get caught by the cops, etc..).

I'm not judging you if you smoke weed, I've done it. Music sounds awesome high; food is banging high; you bust the best nuts high, etc.. But I realized with all that, the total costs outweigh the benefits. I'd rather lift weights in the gym and do cardio on off days. If I were you, I'd limit myself to maybe smoking Friday nights (provided you don't have some major exam the following Monday). It's good to let loose every now and then. Keep everything in your life in balance and in moderation.
Good points, and thanks for the kind words. I understand the risks associated with smoking, but that's a risk I'm always going to be willing to take.
-Money: Fuckin great point here. I should be saving at least $50 a week. That all adds up (to mods ).
-Paranoia: Honestly, I'm never paranoid when I'm high or when I'm carrying. I feel bad for the people that do. I feel like keeping your cool is easier. You don't look like a stoner, and you're not stressing out.
-Lungs: Hey, I don't smoke stoges that often, and I only drink beer/alcohol at parties, which I usually keep to Wednesdays or weekends. Eh, live a short, crazy life. I'll probably hate myself for this later on in life.

I'll probably limit myself to once every other day after this hiatus. I'll try to keep it in "moderation".

I don't smoke (haven't since I joined the Corps at 19), but I don't generally think there's anything wrong with smoking it.

BUT...the individual who can control his vices is the one who succeeds. If it’s getting in the way, you’re doing the right thing. Good luck with it. Just remember, most things are fine in moderation.
