I have yet to see any evidence to back this assertion, despite how many times it's been made. My 135i dynod 278 stock in 100 degree weather, exactly 5hp less than the highest 335i that had ever dynod on that dyno, and that was in 60 degree weather. In other words, indentical. Neither car gains much HP at all from a catback, which should tell you something.

I don't care if the 135i is "uglier." I still love the dam car. How many 335's do you see daily? How many 1'ers do you see daily? I rest my case!

Do you honestly believe the 1'er is a more exlucsive car than the 3'er? Give it a few more months at least.

Do you honestly believe the 1 was meant to sell the same volume as the 3?

so have I and the 1 is not as communicative..... also you sit higher in the 1 than the 3, therebygiving the driver more confidence and better control...again drivers race

+1 By the first half of 2008, worldwide BMW sold 116,919 1ers. From 2005 to the same period, BMW sold 1,002,052 E90 3ers. I'm not really good at math but it looks like there are ten times as many 3ers as 1ers. Now, figure the fact that ONLY coupe 1er models are sold in the US, had been available for ONLY 4 months, and that BMW's 2008 sales target for the 1er was 10,000 units, I'd say your odds of seeing a 3 series on any given day are at LEAST 20x that of a 1 series, more likely closer to 100x.

OK, so let's tally this up here:

The 135i is faster, cheaper and more exclusive than the 335i. Looks are of course subjective, and the interior is nearly the same.

So, there we have it, the 1'er is the better car.

So, I'm not sure if that is the argument you guys are trying to make, or if you truly believe the 1'er is a better car. I suppose we are dealing with another case of buyer rationalization here.
Actually I bought the car because I knew it'd piss off 3er owners. Thats pretty much it.

No, not only that, but now I'm convinced the 135i is better. Check my edit.

Right, we're convinced your edit wasn't done in a facetious manner.

Listen, there is no "better" when comparing something like this, only what is best for a specific individual. What's better, blond or brunette?

I couldn't care less if the 135 doesn't fit someone's needs. If you prefer a 3 series over a 1 series, then that's terrific. However, the endless "the 135 is retarded baby ugly with a cheap interior!" comments are ridiculous and tiresome. The quality difference between the cars is so minimal that it's almost a moot issue.

But hey, this is the internets. What would we do if we couldn't argue like children?

Both cars are great.

I think in most generally accepted qualitative ways the 3er is the better car. But seriously people, we're all driving around in awesome cars (be it a 128 or an M3) while billions on this planet don't even have indoor plumbing.

I worked very hard in school and later in my career to get to a place where I could afford my "cheap" BMW 128i. And even after owning it for 5 months, every time I push the start button I smile. Is the best car ever? I could care less because I'm happier than a pig in shit to be driving one. And if I was somehow disappointed for "only" driving a brand new 128i then that, my friends, would officially make me a spoiled brat.

So which is better? Who cares, be happy for your good fortune and enjoy the ride.

Good post. I guess I was trying to incite a flamewar between 335i and 135i owners (not really a flamewar, but a healthy venting of opinions). It was in poor taste.

The 135i is uglier and has a stupid interior. Nothing else to add.

They made it uglier to compensate for it being faster and cheaper. If it was better looking than the 335i, no way in hell anyone would buy the 335i.

But so are uglier women, they are better in bed.....

I own both cars (and both are loaded feature-wise). I could care less what other people think. My 135i is more fun to drive and my 335i is more comfortable. Both are great cars. If I could only keep one car, I'd rather have the 135i, but that's just me.

Coupe 1ers only sold in the US? Guess my eyes are deceiving me over here. But for sure you don't see too many German spec ones around.

Another pointless argument however.

I think you misunderstood. I wasn't implying the coupes arn't sold elsewhere, just that its the only model available in the US. If we had the hatches since 2000whatever, this might be a sligthly different tale of sales numbers.
