I pretty much only wear Panerai's. For some reason people who like the brand, yet don't own one yet, are drawn to the 90 as "the one" to have. I was the same way, but as I got more and more into the brand it actually became my least favorite. The dial is a bit busy and the PR indicator throws everything off balance. I would recommend starting out with a historic like one of the logo's or if you like the PR try to get your hands on the new 312 which has an in house movement and date function.
If you spend a good bit of time on the water I would strongly check out the Rolex Deepsea as well. Best watch Rolex has made in years imo. |

Panerai and it's not even a choice in my mind. The Rolex will be more well known by those that don't really know anything about watches. The Panerai will be more likely to be a conversation piece among those that do.

Rolexes are played out and most Rolexes are bought by people who came across some money, decided that it's time to buy a nice watch, and don't know what else to get so they get a Rolex because to them, that means they made it.
For some reason, I'm not a BIG fan of Panerai although I'm being swayed a bit... but if it's going to be a watch that you wear every day, don't get a leather/alligator strap. Those aren't meant to be worn every day as the leather/alligator skin will start absorbing your oils and get damaged. If you're buying an everyday watch, get a watch with a metal strap. Leather strap watches are for occasional wear/special occasions. My everyday watch is a Roadster and then I have a Santos 100, a Collection Privee Rose Gold Tank, a Portuguese Moon Phase, and the the Tag Tiger Woods when I'm golfing... There are a couple Panerai's that have caught my eye, but we'll see... |

Not a watch I would wear every day, I have a Cartier Must 21 Chrono and a Tag Chrono (knock around). This will be an alternate.
I think I'm going for the Panerai. Thanks for your help everyone! I'll post pics when I have it in my possession.
