pretty much the basics are that overall plasma is the best type of tv. it has no lag at all so it is obvious the best for sports, gaming and fast paced movies. even the 120 hz lcds dont get the job done.
lcd's do not have the deep rich blacks that plasma's do, but since they have a matte screen they do not have glare problems. lcds should be used for rooms with a lot of sunlight. also lcd's use less energy than plasma's and run cooler. burn in on plasmas is much different than image retention(IR). IR is temporary and can only really be noticed on a black screen. burn in is permanent and is a thing of the past. if a tv is properly broke in then IR should not be a big problem. i have a pioneer elite and it has never not even once had any burn in or IR. Panny's are the best bang for your buck as far as plasma's go. they provide great picture and are not ridiculously priced. i have a 46" 1080p that is great. i got it for $950. Led tv's are the technology of the future. im pretty sure pioneer is shutting down there plasma tv production as will other companies. LED's unlike LCD's use lights on the edges of the tv instead of in the back. this allows LED tv's to achieve deeper blacks and better contrast and color. the new top of the line LCD's also have a 240 hz refresh rate. i myself love pioneers and would recommend the Pioneer Elite Kuro which is the best tv made. its kinda pricy but if you have the money go for it. if you want something cheaper but still nice go for a panny. hope this helps
