M3:

Driver Stereotype: Typically a prick with an ego

Jalopnik Insurance Cost Analysis: Excess amounts of hair gel, collar popping, orange skin and overly bright white teeth have caused many severe accidents due to the dry heaving by oncoming drivers and the subsequent loss of their bodily functions and vehicular control.

X6:

Driver Stereotype: Stay-at-home soccer moms

Jalopnik Insurance Cost Analysis: The ugly and confusing nature of the BMW X6 design has confused many a folk to think they need to kill it with fire, unfortunately at the expense of a much higher insurance premium. Bummer.

If you want a daily driver and a track car you could always keep the 135i and pick up a spec miata. You should be able to pick one up with most of the track mods you'd want for several thousand less than an s2k (I think - I haven't been tracking prices that closely).

If you want more power later you could then pick up the Miata LS1/LS2/LS3 engine swap kit (http://www.racingconcepts.net/product.html)

Edit:
On second thought, skip the "later" part. It looks like you could pickup or build an LS1 Miata for half the price of an S2k and it'd be a hell of a lot faster.

I agree with the recommendation for an AP1 over the AP2. The higher revving motor was more fun, and the less composed chassis and greater propensity for oversteer were more entertaining. If I didn't already have the M Coupe, I'd love to have an S2000, if they'd ever built a coupe, I'd certainly own one. Aside from a G3 RX7 or an Exige/Elise, I can't think of a more direct, entertaining and reasonably fast car.

I certainly can't tell you why you don't want to get rid of your 1'er. But, I can definitely realize why. I was just recently hit by the S2K bug.

But, deep down I am still a BMW guy, and my next bmw will be a 2001-2002 Z3M.

I almost bought one, but got the 335i instead. The torque is a lot more useable around town- the S2k doesn't start pulling hard unilt you're already approaching the speed limit. If you're just getting a toy instead of a daily driver though, go for it! My 335i handles awesome compared to 97% of cars on the road, but that S2k was downright telepathic!

Yes, as a daily driver that would be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, it wouldn't be so great. The car doesn't come alive until it's higher than ~5k RPM IMO.

Also been contemplating a z4mc, but the S would leave me with a lot of leftover dough to mod with, or just invest.

You seem to be like me. I like high reving nimble cars and the 135I is a torque monster. It's very fast...I doubt that my next car will be that fast in straight lines btw. I had to have a torque monster it was fun and it's now time to move on.

if you are gonna hv 2 cars, the s4 as a daily. then i dont hv any strong argument telling you not get a s2k for weekend/track LOL

AP2's a good car,if you want more torque, you can always drop a Comptech S/C or sth in there, I dont think it's hard to find a deal on s2ki.com, just be patient! You cant go wrong with AP2, so much fun!
