canon makes the rebel series of cameras.
Stick with Canon or Nikon. In my opinion, if you get another brand you may as well get a P&S camera. The lens selections are much larger with Canon & Nikon. I'm a canon guy and i agree; get a D40 over any sony.

besides, having the most expensive, full-frame camera doesnt mean youll produce anything special. thats like saying buying kobe zoom 4s will make you great at basketball. its the person using the camera, not the camera the person uses.

just get the used D40 from KEH for $275, it'll be in better condition. don't get the kit with the kit lenses - using those cheap things, you might as well just get a point and shoot.

+1, its mostly about the lens that produces great clarity pictures, body is important too but since its a DSLR, lens make a bigger difference, because its 6.1 mp doesn't mean its crap, i have 8 mp P&S but hey its total POS. have fun getting with your D40 alex. !!!

if you really want to get involved into photography, you should also check out the book "Understanding Exposure". it sets me off quite good and is handy for both beginner and professional photographers to review the articles from time to time

It was appropriate to post all those images of pretty much the same thing, give3n that you're seeking feedback. I think you'll find yourself taking hundreds of images per month, maybe thousands. Work on two things; first, make a higher percentage of them "keepers" and then edit yourself harshly to find the real "stunners". Lately, when I post on Flickr, I try to look for three to five images per 100 taken and don't show the rest. In the case of those images with the tire marks, I'd try to find the most powerful one and use only that. Take other images of the car in different settings, different light, etc. I also suspect that you're going to get draw deep into Photoshop after you get to know it. Start budgeting. Dave

pick the top 3% to develop/process/save/share/post and store the rest and forget about them. nit-pick and critique your own work. good advice, Dave.

completely agree, definitely go harsh on your work and only select the best out of the batch; only by doing that, you will be able to improve in a fast pace. using that method will yield the most improvement because your mind and eye catch the pattern of what a good composition is, i've been doing the exact same thing lately.
