Don't buy a ring. If you want to buy jewelry, I would buy some pearl earings. They are very classy and even very best sets (stay with Mikimoto) are pretty reasonable.

And then afterwards you can give her a pearl necklace

I have to agree with most of the previous post. This sounds way too much like an engagement. And trust me if she thinks its an engagement, either 1) Your going to freak her out cause she's only 19 and not ready for that step or 2) She's going to think its an engagement and get extremely stoked and then be completely crushed when you tell her its "just a ring".
