Yeah but where does it stop? Next thing you know there's a little photochop, then a little bigger image, then slightly off topic images and so on...I mean these are not even hard rules to follow so why not at least pay attention to them? I'm thinking people just read the theme, shoot, and submit.

I guess we should start pooling ideas for the next theme? IF the winner comes in he/she could use the idea. If not, we can just pick one and that will be the next theme.

I'll start. With Valentine's Day, Presidents' Week and Chinese New Year coming up, I think we should do something like emotions/feelings. It could be that an excited/happy kid receiving his first red envelop, a bf/gf receiving flowers/jewelry, or a crowd gathering at the Presidents' Week celebration. I think anything that captures the joy of people/person/pet? would be good.

not bad, I'd like to see it a little more specific though. like "Joy" or "love" or whatever. So many different ways to show those and a better direct comparison between photos.

I personally would go with "joy" because it's something that could be reflected in all those events mentioned. "Love" is too Valentine specific. Just my $.02.

Anyone else with an idea please do chime in. Let's have a fun theme for the next contest!!

You probably won't but I'd have to say it: please do not post pictures of cars!!

Anyhow, I got from more ideas from betterphoto.com. We could do: togetherness (groups of people, animals, things, etc.), diversity (variety of whatever- people, things, etc.), or celebration (self-explanatory).

So right now we have:

Joy
Diversity
Togetherness
Celebration

any other ideas please throw them out there. It's up to you guys what the theme should be next as we still have about a week before any of those events begin.

Gaaah, this is sounding like one of those nebulous old Infiniti "concept" commercials. Why not go all the way and have topics like "spiritual essence" or "resonance" or "within you, without you". Whatever happened to subject-specific topics like "landscape", "wildlife", "people", etc.

OK, I'll retreat to grumpy old curmudgeon land now.

Because subjects like landscapes have pretty much been done. It's hard to do wildlife because, let's face it, unless you live in the Serengeti it's tough to take those pictures. The "people" theme is too general and usually we get a varied bunch of pictures. Hence most people now want a more specific theme.

at what you said about the themes.
I think that if you think closely about those suggestions, they are actually very different. It's something that anyone can participate in.

For Joy, anyone that's going to the Super Bowl or have their team win should take a picture of the people around. I think that's going to be the perfect example of JOY/TOGETHERNESS.

How about...

Tension - Images that depict tension in the form of creases and stretched sufaces. Cars are a cop-out idea. You could use stretched cloth, sculptural buildings (if you're lucky enough to have local ones around), etc.

Symmetry - Self-explanatory.

Textures - Close shots (prob macro shots) of textured surfaces that give you a great idea as to how they'd feel if you could brush your hand across them.

Stripes - Image must include stripes as an integral element. Could be a pic of an animal, clothing, buildings, street paint, etc.

I'm just throwin out ideas.

^ I kind of like "symmetry". How long should we continue throwing out ideas before we vote on them? I'm just curious.
