Get Winterboard off Cydia for basic themes. You will need to learn how to SSH to your iPhone for more advanced themes.

Yes you can. I'll give you the easy way. Download this theme and place it above your illumine theme in winterboard. This is the unlock theme I'm using now.

i was customizing my interface and downloading a theme from cydia, and my phone just froze... i can't shut it off or do anything.... i think i just bricked my phone. is there ANYTHING i can do?

Should be able to do a restore.

hold the power button and the home button at the same time. it should force a shut down. then turn your phone back on and it should start up like normal.

Or goto DFU mode: hold Top and Home button for 10 secs, release top and keep holding home button, phone will go into DFU and will be recognizable by any itunes.

Did you all use Quick Pwn to jailbreak?? I believe I used that on my first gen but not sure what is the safest on the 3Gs.
