Wait, don't pretty much ALL BMWs have sat nav, and thus should be able to be tracked somehow some way? One would think, right?

According to NYPOST:
I work at the port and its actually Port Jersey in Bayonne NJ. not Jersey City NJ. we sometimes release these cars off the ships. and i dont think Elizabeth has a BMW facility.

Whats stupid is that all these cars at the ports have the keys inside already so its open and go without breaking anything. These cars are long gone by now.

wow...

Just like the movie "Gone in 60 seconds"

Had to be an inside job...b/c they would needed access to the coded keys.

Either way, its a new car and BMW would know the VIN number for the stolen cars. So if they take it into a shop or try and register it, then BMW/Law Enforcument would know.

If the cars do go to a 3rd world country, ha well, it would be funny if they tried and get it serviced at a BMW dealer. The VIN would tell all. Can you imagine

"um, excuse me Sir, but is your car stolen?"

As for the vehicle recovery for stolen vehicles (as someone previously mentioned) - that would only work if the car was registered to BMW Assist. Which is probably not the case.

Well, ...the port is definitely NOT in Elizabeth.
I think you actually take the Bayonne exit on the Turnpike to get to the port but for some reason, its always referred to as being in Jersey City.

if they could afford to pay for a one off stolen vehicle and import it to a 3rd world country im sure they could pay off the guy at the service department or just go to a another shop. but this is a pretty crazy story tho..and that car is long gone!
