don't forget sales tax, car registration fees, gas taxes, regulatory taxes on things like cell phones and utilities, etc. those are all forms of tax.

i wouldn't mind doing it if the government did something constructive for EVERYONE, not just obama's lazy welfare slobs.

the first thing my macro econ teacher said to the class was "there is no free lunch." there can't be a better euphemism for the world.

that's bad economics. while you might get more back from obama, all those things are going to cost you exponentially more out-of-pocket. house, good investment; kids, very expensive.

edit: unless you do like obama's slobs and get all your income in cash, claim welfare, and pop them babies out for that government cheese.

yea thats why the economy hit the tank, certain classes decided that if they bought a home and had 72 kids they could get a paycheck

not saying you do that, bc it was obviously a joke

You guys that actually have to write checks, what type of jobs do you have? I make good money (could have bought a 335i with what I paid last year) but haven't ever had to pay more than what was deducted from my paycheck. Are you self-employed or something?

I can't speak for everyone else, but I have a full time job and I do a fair ammount of consulting on the side. My consulting gigs just pay me gross income, then its up to me to figure deductions and then pay the appropriate taxes.

Same deal with my wife... full time job + consulting...

It effing adds up (the taxes that is).

I'm kidding with the house and kids comments. I'm going to get both, but obviously for the right reasons. I've been paying taxes too long to know that doing these things won't really "help" me in any way, shape or form.

House helped me out quite a bit. Didn't qualify for any of the housing credits but the interest and tax deductions are still pretty nice.

No kidding! On top of all my other taxes (a not insignificant amount), I just had the delight of paying CA vehicle registration renewal. $806. It never ends. FML x 2

California is the worst when it comes to taxes.

I will admit that the interest deductions are nice, but look at this...
http://www.up2daterealestate.com/201...sshairs-again/

(disclaimer - I just googled what I was looking for and this was one of the first results, but I havent throroughly read it)

That would be fun for those who bought homes assuming this credit would always in be in place, wouldn't it?

that is pretty much the sole reason why i'd never consider the people's republic of california as a home state.

So happy I moved...

I paid like $638 for regestration and then moved about 30 days later to Chicago. I called them up for a refund (I mean why wouldn't they give me one?) and they told me that "1 day counts just as much as 365" and there were no pro-rated refunds. WTF?

So, all you Californians... you are welcome.
