the cool thing is, you can configure your HDSLR mount in any way you please.

we've done a lot of projects with the 5D instead of our Red One (which is soon to be an Epic!).

my own most recent piece:

I just remembered something about "red" in the gear name, and the local drug dealer (Glazer's Camera) just posted on their home page they got the Red Rock Micro stuff. I got confused by the "red".....

What's the fascination with red anyway?

the Red One was revolutionary to the film/video industry.
it has a sensor the size of true motion 35mm film, and a resolution over four times the size of 1080p HD. Not only that, but it shoots in RAW with a huge dynamic range and post overhead/abilities. And still only a fraction of the price of film cameras and other video cameras (whose sensors only put out 1080p in a compressed format and on a sensor the size of what's in a point-and-shoot still camera.

And the new Red cameras (Epic and Scarlet, and Red One's updated with the new sensor) are even far better than their predecessor. And they're modular.

Red is run by a company who started designing the camera as a hobby, not by some huge corporate mainstream brand that is trying to make money.

but anyway, just go to red.com to read all about it. ha.

Is the Scarlet the small, affordable camera they've been talking about?

affordable? well, it's less than the Epic. and less than the Red One.
but it'll come in different configurations. i think the 2/3" fixed is $4500.
and you can get by with $8000-9000 35mm Scarlet without lenses.
