Although you'll never find one new for this money, an Infiniti G37, coupe or sedan, would actually fit this bill as near as anything.

I think you're on an impossible quest.....

I'd go for a ZHP

ZHP's are awesome if you don't mind buying used. Bulletproof motor if maintained properly and the E46 body is timeless. I was considering one not too long ago...

you have the same car with slightly more power. genius.

Tell him to look into a WRX.

if you want to stay in small car territory a loaded Mazda 3 is not bad to drive.

everything else is too nose heavy in that price range unless he is willing to look into used. And you can get used e90s, and infiniti G sedans in the mid 20s with relatively low miles and CPO.

BMW-WRX? Two different cars. Drove my new 2002 WRX for 150k miles and then bought the CPO 2006 330Xi sport 6-spd. The WRX was faster and really fun, but as far as build quality/ride/handling/technology, there is no comparison. BMW wins. Tell him to test a few CPO Bimmers.

+1 on the stang. Just add springs, struts, and some poly bushings and you got something serious.

If they brought the 4 door R32 here I would be all over it.
From all the cars I've had in that range (WRX, 350z, GTi, Civic Si, etc.) the closest to the 3 series was the VW. Definitely has that German, solid feel and quality. And still a blast to drive.

Those mustangs are beautiful in my opinion. They are classy, powerful and American made which tells me the maintenance may be good.
