I was thinking of getting the extended warranty on whatever I get. Maybe I just need to head to the store and decide on the picture.

and last i remembered, corning was making all of the lcd screens if not most of them (all manufacturers, got their lcds from this company)..this is probably 2-3 years ago. i havent been in the market in a while so i dont really keep up.
in regards to picture, if you notice on sony, you'll see a bit more of an enhanced color vs a truer color on a mitsubishi. samsung does it's own little thing. for real pictures, serious watching, i watch on my huge mitsubishi dlp in the living room, otherwise i have a samsung lcd (for my room) i picked up a few years ago. |

I bought a samsung LCD a year or so ago. Great price and great picture. A bunch of my friends also picked them up. I dont think you can go wrong with Samsung. I was at the sony store a few days ago and their pictures looked good as well. But you pay a premium for Sony. We've got a LCD DLP from them 7 or 8 years ago. Great picture and the only problem we've had was replacing a bulb.

Hmmm I have a 50" samsung plasma in the living room and it's having image retention issues. For example you're watching a commercial and then it switches to another commercial, you will see the shadows of whatever was on left imprinted on the screen. it goes away after like 2 seconds but I would always notice it. It also makes this whirling noise (the fan?) sometimes when we turn it on. It is about 4 years old though so take it with a grain of salt.
I've heard Samsung is good but based on my experience I'm kind of on the fence about this one. I do like Sony though because they're solid. |

I would like to hear more about Plasma VS LED.
Best buy is having 58" Plasma for $1300.... I'm not sure if LED is really good enough for the price over cheaper plasma. |

It took me 15 days for research and compare between Samsung and Sony LED. Finally bought Samsung because of the price and quality. Sony was nice too but I just could not pay that high...

I bought a Sony 60 in Bravia LCD since Samsung only had up to 55 in. Samsung's 55 LED LCD's cost more than the 60 in Bravia at the time so I went with the Sony. Picture quality is pretty similar as long as you calibrate them correctly.
Panasonic Plasmas have great picture quality and are prob the better value since they are cheaper. |

My brother has a plasma TV and I don't like it plasmas are a lot cheaper though... I find my colors more vibrant on my LCD... if I could justify the price, I'd go with LED...

Thanks again for all the responses. I ended up going with the Samsung LED. Got home, hooked it up and am 100% happy with my purchase. I'd recommend it to anyone in the market.

I cannot comment on whether or not some brands burn easier or worse than others, just that AFAIK it's a concern with any plasma |

Burn in is diff than image retention. Newer plasmas have way less issues.

I think you'll likely be happy with either. My preference is Sony since that is all my family ever owned and we never had one problem with a Sony TV set.
Sony's seems to have a price premium though. |

Plasma is still the industry leader in picture quality. The 9G Kuro's are considered to be the reference displays still, while the new Panasonic VT's are right behind them. Panasonic plasma's are the most resistant to image retention and I find it almost impossible to burn an image into newer plasma's. (I own two of them).
Any HT purist would most likely recommend plasma to someone for the most film like experience. They beat out LCD's in most every PQ category. LCD's are thinner and use a little less energy though. For under $1,500 the Panasonic 54" G25 is impossible to beat.
