that might not be the optimal setup when driving on crappy public roads with lots of potholes...

and those track wheels might not be for street use since they'll crack easily on a large dip/pothole.

What's the issue? The guy wants to go for a weekend track event and rather do this than tow a car. I woudn't want to tow a car unless it wasn't street legal.

Clearly the people posting on this thread are not track rats.

You don't drive Hoosiers on the street.

Not necessarily. Most people are just opposed to hooking up a trailer to a GT3

The whole point of that car is driving it on the track.

racing rubber would not live long if you did that, you may not even make it home. They are also good for a limited number of heat cycles. If you encounter rain or wet roads you could have trouble. They probably are not street legal

Everyone here knows that. The trailer is what's putting people off. You usually see it on an SUV or a pickup... not a performance car

Usually, yes.

I have seen a Lotus pulling a trailer with its track tires, I have also seen a Miata doing the same. I have seen a full set of tires crammed into the back of a Mini Cooper S, I forget what kind of car it was that had a safari rack on the roof holding its track tires.

Some of you guys need to sign up for a track day!

I don't know about Ohio, but in California it's illegal to sport track tires with race compounds on public roads.

Also, the track I usually go to is Buttonwillow. That's about 180 mile ONE way trip from where I am in Mission Viejo. Considering how expensive track tires are (Michelin cups, etc), I don't think anyone would want to put that kind of wear on their track tires.

That being said, a trailer is the best solution.

Aside from looking sort of funny, its clearly the cheapest/easiest solution to hauling track wheels around

Actually, I've seen this done before. Some friends are track rats or would at least hang out at car club events (Audi, BMWCCA, etc...) and there was someone with a Porsche that did something similar to haul their track wheels, tooks, and extra HW. If I remember right, someone once even hauled their track car with a 911. That was a weird one to see. I'll see if I can dig up the pix from a local forum.

I've seen pics of a Cayman using a roof rack to transport its track rims. That seems like a better option to me than putting a hitch on a Porsche.

Obviously the guy drives the thing, and uses the car... the same people bitching about him towing with the car are the ones that would bitch for him NOT driving it.

Just can't win eh?

Not really the same, but here's my S2000. Daily driven through everything for ~3 years. Was going to do the same for the M3 since I ride a lot, but the exhaust is in the way.

^^ Drive s2000 in the winters? How is it compared to an e9x if I throw on some snow tires? I'm considering driving the S2k year round too!
