Definitely not a troll. The rest of the world has so much more going forward than the US which may have seen it's best days gone by.

What's wrong with Qatar? Seems like it would be a good place to visit. People in that region are far more into soccer and FIFA than anywhere in the US. It would be an embarrassment to have FIFA in the US and little fan support. Why would people want to come to the US to a FIFA world cup?

Why would it be so much better in the US?

Dude are you serious? Who the fuck wants to go to the desert for a month to watch the World Cup? Definitely not me and I can guarantee you most of the world also.

The U.S has a lot more to offer than Qatar. The most important probably being the party scene. In a event such as the WC, entertainment is needed. I've never been, but I can only imagine how boring that place must be.

Although im not hating on Qatar we also have a pretty good football following...the MLS has been gaining strength and we have lots of soccer-specific stadiums...and the U.S. always gets behind our team

No offense..but this year watching the World cup in the US was the most boring way to watch the world cup for me ever. No atmosphere at all, 90% percent of the people don't know whats going on, and people who talk about football and don't know shit are just annoying. Much rather go to a place where people actually care

Fixed it for you.

For once I agree with Scott. This decision makes sense to the rest of the world, and my fellow Americans would do well to figure out why.

Edit: Camel racing can only go so far!
Dude, I don't think anybody cares if you're going. Lets see if the hotels and stadiums will be sold out or not. just because YOU, mr mcmuffin, don't want to go there doesn't mean the football fans of the world agree with you. Qatar will build stadiums and facilities that the US will never think of building with all their debt. Oh, and you've never been there, that figures.

Do you feel compelled to defend your fellow neighbors? There is no doubt people are gonna go, I'm sure a shit load of people are gonna go. You can build state of the art stadiums in Haiti and people would go, however it doesn't change the fact that It's in Haiti.

Like Ghost said "It's 12 years from now." Let's just hope all the people that go get their moneys worth. Hopefully they can come up with better activies than camel racing or shooting AK's.

yep, its because i've been there for a football tournament a few years ago and they've been working for years now to become a sport center. They have the Qatar Open tennis tournament, Qatar masters (Golf tournament), they've hosted the Asian games and much more. Aljazeera Sports channel is watched worldwide and is one of the top channels to watch football. They deserve it, and there is much more than "camel racing" and the image you are giving of the place. Plus, soon its gonna be a 30 minute drive from my house as soon as the bridge is complete

I bet the US immigration policy has a lot to do with the bid. If you can't guarantee that everyone who wants to come will be able to, in a timely manner, why should you get to host the biggest soccer tournament?

They have plenty of money to build enough entertainment for the masses to visit. I'm good with that choice - Its different.

Interesting article:

Their proposed stadiums:
