Meh. In a nutshell, all streaming stuff still currently sucks and is still a niche. It is still in its infancy and wont be mainstream or replacing cable tv anytime soon.

Anywho, you'd be better off buying a ps3 if your at all tech savvy.

Also, apple doesn't support canada. They got tired of the exchange rate. $1.06CDN for a canadian app just didn't sound good.

You can get ps3 media server and stream just about anything from your computer to your ps3. Then theres playon which lets you use all those internet services like hulu and whatnot. The media server also has a built in video converter in it which works pretty well.

Personally, I think products like apple tv are just products that let you better use the apple store. F giving them more of my money.

Yes the latest version of the AppleTV has only 4 menu options. My 1st gen AppleTV has more options, such as TV shows. Also the 2nd Gen can only display 720p compared to the 1080p last gen.

Your Macbook does stupid sh!t when you're trying to use your Apple TV because your Apple remote has the ability to control both your computer AND your Apple TV. So a quick fix would be to move your laptop far away from your Apple TV.

Yeah the main downside to Apple products is that it can't support anything other than mp4,mp3 and avi. I bought mine because it's convenient for us to watch movies/tv shows/listen to music/show our pics to friends as our entire house is a network of Apple products. If I ever needed to use another other format, I usually turn to my PS3, but thats once in a blue moon since I mainly use my PS3 for Black Ops.

really???? When I turn on my TV to my 1st gen, the TV recognizes it as 1080p, whereas when i use the new one, the tv only recognizes at 720p.

I would think that the 1st gen will support a higher display since I have to download the movie first before watching

For whatever reason, we could never get the converter/transcoder to work with our mkv files. It was real strange. We had it enabled and everything, but the media server didn't want to do it. A Boxxy Box ended up being the solution. I really love it so far. Though I'm pretty sure you could build a Boxxy Box for much cheaper than D-Link has it. It's a nifty little thing, though. Only issue is, it's reaaalllly difficult to tell which direction the remote is since it's symmetrical and all of the buttons look exactly the same practically. Doesn't help a whole lot at night.

I see. You are apples ideal customer. You bought their hardware to use their software to purchase their product.

With which program? ps3 media streamer thing? With that all I've found was you had to go to the folder and then rather than clicking directly on the mkv file you had to click the transcode folder then the movie and it will transcode in real time. If it wasn't working... I dunno. They have a forum and I found the answer to all my questions over there. Before that I was just using MKV2VOB to convert the files first and then streaming from my mac with whatever program that was or from my PC with WMP.

If they ever start offering something similar to cable/satelite where you pay a monthly fee and get a box but it connects to the internet rather than cable I would consider purchasing it. I'm not ready to give up brainless tv yet but I like being able to get whatever media I want and watch it on the tv as well. The ps3 and basic cable have done me well this far.

Well it turns put that Apple TV simply "does not offer TV service in Canada". So my apple TV... Doesn't do TV!!! I'm returning it tomorrow.
