I disagree. I think your 1 series looks a step down from the 458 as expected, but not completely out of class.
It looks allright, well done! The 458 Just has those italian curves that german cars including Porsche cannot seem to add to their repertoire. I'm also guessing those curves cost more money to turn into sheet metal. still wonder why Porsche can't make a nice looking 911. |

First off, you have the basic overall design languages representing their countries; Germany has always been about precision and austerity, and German auto design has always faithfully represented this. The lines behind Mercedes, BMW, and especially Audi (including VW), have always been as proportionally balanced as possible for their given eras. You won't find any flamboyant proportions or lines because that isn't relative to German tradition. Italy has been and will probably remain a country of flamboyant elegance. There's also the issue of practicality and mass production. Comparing exotic designs to mass-produced ones is futile simply because car makers have to make packaging efficiency and safety one of the most important factors. Safety standards = blunt, softened body work, and packaging efficiency means boring, efficient shapes devoid of unecessary extreme proportions like massively flared arches and unnecessarily long hoods or flat rooflines. Another factor that leads to a more conservative, diluted design for mass-produced cars is the fact that they're going to be everywhere. The more common a car is likelygoing to be, the higher the chance that it'll be a more reserved design. People would tire and even grow wearisome of unusual design if they saw one at every other stoplight. In regards to surface complexity, it's typically things like those inlets on the hood and front fenders that are expensive to produce/stamp. Materials also have a huge factor in manufacturing costs as well. I also disagree about the 911. I think it's just about epitomizes what a German sports car should be: a perfect balance of engineering efficiency mixed with carefully calculated lines and proportions. No single model has better recognition. It's literally the most typical looking sports car when you break it down. Think about it. The 997 is one of the few modern cars that's guaranteed to remain timeless. Not one single line goes out of its way to impress you, yet there's nothing to fault. Perfectly shaped round headlamps up front, fat rear hips with conservative yet slender taillamp design, a sloping fastback roofline, and a predictable yet aggressive front fascia for each model, all in an extremely efficient, small package. I used to hate 911s because I just dismissed them as boring rehashes. After being so obsessed with car design for the past 4 years, I have nothing but the highest respect for that model. I just typed all this shit out on my blackberry at work. Killed a good half hour lol.

lol... okay i will
Seriously? My car cost here $130 000 with options I added and stuff it get near by $150 000, its not a dime a dozen like in the US. the euro spec 335 have tons of different options then the 335i with us specs + it does have the DCT gearbox and lots more feature. You can't talk BS about my " blue BMW " if you guys got the shitty quality of 335i in the US as your goverment laws does not allow euro specs cars to be imported to the us, DO NOT JUDGE THE CAR + that ferrari looks shit and fugly.

I'm not disliking man, its a nice car and everything, just it doesn't need that much attention and the thread name says "my car looks sh!t next to it" that's annoying, and No it doesn't look " shit " next to it, its just a different class.

Agreed but when you own a BMW typically you will be a fan. Of those millions of people that are fans of BMW 40% probably have owned or own a BMW. Of the millions that are fans of Ferrari maybe <1% own or have owned one. Therefore statistically Ferrari is more desireable for those who do not own one.
