If he has a manual then he must not know how to drive it. I happened to smoke a 335i manual myself, but if you still want to see what a beast the car is, holla @ the kid we can hit up Floyd Bennet with DSC fully off & on. btw I got the sedan. Not to sounds cocky or nuffin cuz I also have an all black g35 coupe in the driveway also(exhaust is way better, on the low end than 335i) but then 335 pretty much rapes the g35 for everything else.

I ran an e92 335 while driving a stock '06 350Z a few months back. The guy was driving pretty quickly so I decided to follow him. Low and behold we find ourselves side by side at a stop light on somewhat of a steep incline. At the time, I knew the 335 should be a good deal faster, but was willing to run the guy just for fun. I tried to get his attention, but he just looked straight ahead and wouldn't look my way.

Well the green light comes up and he gets about about a half-hood length on me. I thought he might pull, but the gap stays even up to about 90 or so when we run up on traffic. If I had a better launch we would have been even.

both cars have similar power, so neither one is going to just run away from the other.

If one car has traction problems, so does the other. No need to over analyze it.

I'll add another, "Yeah it's the VQ" to this thread. Wife's Infiniti was my intro to the VQ engine and Dayum, it's a well designed refined motor that makes Acura Eating power all day every day. Torque + HP up top, good stuff.

I think we all know the 335 is faster is faster than a G35 with all things being equal.
The OP just wanted to show that anything can happen in a street race. No need for everyone to analyze the road temperature, shift points, driver error etc...
Its not like he said he walked the 335, he just said it was pretty close.
Anyways, interesting post and the both the 335 and G35 are sweet rides!

well listen i test drove an auto 335i sedan and it def felt a nice amount faster then my G. Dont get me wrong i do love my car, but these 335i's are great machines and i really just expected it to do much better then it did, driver error or not. From a roll a momo can race in all honesty, but dont get me wrong either, i think if i was drivin that 335i i would have won with no problem.

As far as them having similar power, yes they do on paper...but i hear these 335is are dynoing 270-280 to the wheels, where as the G does around 240...thats a huge difference.

And an 04 530i has absolutly no shot against my G. My friend i work with has an 07 530 sport and i abuse him in my 05 maxima automatic...with my G i would embaress that car.

I'll add in my $0.02 to this thread

A good explanation for your win could be that he had traction control on, when in fact, he should've turned it off before the race.

Another point, he had a manual right? I'm guessing he wasn't launching properly in the 335i. Reason being is that the 335i has so much torque in the lower/mid powerband, and he may have revved it to the 3k rpm range if he wasn't familiar w/ the car and its engine. It's been posted several times that you should only launch the 335i around the 1.5k rpm range. Any higher and you're bound to lose traction.

People who are coming from an import or less powerful car are used to revving their engines to 3-4k or even higher rpm w/ a manual tranny, in order to get more hp/tq. But if you do that w/ the 335i, then you will lose traction immediately and end up losing the race. Also, take the weather condition of that day into account.

Or else, the guy could just be a noob w/ manual... from a roll, he could have selected the wrong gear... i.e. 2nd gear instead of 1st, i don't know... but that all could have led to u beating him in the race

One last comment, i think that the 335i is better w/ the auto tranny if u want to race b/c it is super-fast at shifting, and it'll nvr slip the clutch like u would in a manual. And it seems to be more consistent (via the data so far), while the maual times seem to vary more =( But the downside is that the auto loses more hp/tq as ppl start to mod it (i.e. procede), since the drivetrain loss is greater than a manual

+1 on the cold weather driving sucks. The tires turn to plastic when its below about 40-45 degrees. today was 70 and sunny and my car was a BEAST. Could have also helped feel that way b/c I drove my dad's lexus around 1/2 the day....

see this is why that dude should have gotten Steptronic. All he had to do was slap the stick to the left and floor it. ^^

does it really matter whos cars faster? the 335 is a new model, just wait till infiniti comes out with the new g35 coupe. its a never ending battle. just be happy with what you got. and stop street racing. some jackass killed himself near a street by my house; the whole block was closed off. i had to walk home. @#$.

An earlier thread probably solved this one. The G35 was racing a 328i. Probably rebadged...I've seen a couple already. Damn shame.

VQ is nice, but VQ35hr is nicer. there's no need to argue which car is faster. it's a fact 335i is quite bit faster than G35. even the OP mentioned it.
I have 06 MT Z and 07 auto 335i. I raced them many times from digs and rolls. they aren't even close.

no he wasnt rebadged, he had the dual pipes, and i herd the noise the car made.

people still are thining that im saying my G is just as fast which in fact im NOT saying that at all. I just figured from a roll that it would have pulled alot harder.

This also didnt change my deciesion I still am going to get the 335i and procede it for sure...but i will tell ya, after getting my car back and i looked at it next to the 335i im getting, damn my car is sexier lol.
