I don't wear suits too often... but the last time I bought off the rack stuff I got them at Mens Warehouse.

Good stuff for the money... especially if you get buy during their buy one get one free sales (I think there is one going on now?).


In the end though, I typically buy custom suits... I have such odd proportions (shoulders to waist ratio) that by the time I get a jacket that'll fit, the pants are like 4 sizes too big, so it rarely works out. Spendy, but worth it.

I actually have to get my suits made.. by the time that I get a jacket that'll fit my shoulders they end up having to cut the paints down to make them fit,

I'm starting to run into this with shirts...my neck is too big for arms basically, even if I go a little long in the arms (16-33) my neck still rubs to the point where I'll get skin irritation...and for some reason 16-1/2 33 seems to be too big...haven't gone custom yet since like you I don't wear suits often enough to warrant it, but am starting to have to wear them more so maybe custom is an option to pursue...

I usually purchase everything at Nordstrom -- not too "cheap" and not too "flashy"

If you ever make it to Italy or have a friend there, there are hundreds of stores that have some of the most beautiful and trendy suits/shirts/jackets/accessories at a decent price, many of which are on "Saldi" (big winter sales).

BTM is correct about the shoes... get shoes that are comfortable, since most dress socks are thinner than your average sock...

And of course, get socks with silicone lined near the opening; nothing looks worse than bunched socks.

Invest in the custom tailoring too... otherwise, you could potentially look like crap or simply unrefined and unprofessional. Then again, I'm not in a suit too often for work.

You can always double up socks but this doesn't address the root of the problem...only reason I bring up the shoes thing is that I always bought "decent" shoes, not crazy expensive but not Kohls either, and fucking hated them so much...simply figured it's "how dress shoes are." It's a menial revelation at best, but a good, comfortable, fitting set of shoes has literally transformed how I feel about wearing a suit...I used to loathe it when I had to but now I wish the opportunity presented itself more often

Yup they have suites not that many though maybe like 2-3 at any given time depending on the store. They are more fitted than all the other suites I have and thats what I like a lot. They always have coupons just join they're email list and ull get like 50% off coupons all the time.

I'm not a guy, but I absolutely love the suits they sell for men at Zara's. For around $300 you can get the blazer and pants. I went with my ex to go get one. And the quality is great. I bought myself a womens blazer there and I love it!

i should take my own advice ^^ but I dont..lol...
all of my suits are from Brooks Brothers...very good quality
but your choice of suit will greatly depend on what "look" you are going for and "acceptable" looks will vary between industries.....you wont find any skinny ties and trendy stuff (i.e. pants with no belt) at Brooks Brothers. But again, it depends on your look....if you are in the entertainment industry, you have to be trendy,,,if you are in finance as I am, traditional is a must, if you are working with BMW, it really depends on what your job is...


some positions dont really require a suit every day, unless you are meeting with clients, then a suit is a must.


I really like Nordstrom as well..they have trendy/modern looks and traditional cuts too...

I like the quality. It might not be as badass as an Armani suit. But hell, for a pant and jacket combo for $300, it's pretty good. I never liked big bulky suits on guys. Maybe if you're fat it would work. But fitted suits are nice, but not skinny pants..lol. That's homo.

I see a lot of recommendations for MWH. I personally find their suits to be typically cheap, and the materials look and feel a bit lower in quality. Again, just my opinion. I do shop at Brooks Bros. and have gotten the 2-for-1 deal before. Quality for price is very competitive. I think the deal I got was 2-for-$1000 though (may have been a different material & style). If you're going to wear a suit more than one time, get one that feels good. It's worth it.

On average, yes, the MWH brand is on the lower end of suiting. This doesn't mean that everything they carry is shitty, they carry some very respectable brands. And as with anything, you get what you pay for...you're spending is going to be different buying a suit to interview with from buying a solid rotation of suits you will actually be wearing every day. Brooks Brothers does make a quality piece, however.

Brooks brothers makes great looking suits. As far as the custom tailored goes, the fit is unmatched to anything else you will find because it is done to your body and they are durable as hell and will last a long time. Well worth the investment.

Whatever you decide, look at the craftsmanship of the suit. Line up the lapels and make sure everything is even and the stitches are done well. Look at the pants flat on the table to make sure the fabric isn't stretched or cheaply sewed. There are guides you can google for knowing what to look for. And when you do find a well made product, take the jacket and pants to a RESPECTED TALENTED tailor to have the pants and jacket altered to fit your body. Don't go to the department store tailors they are all morons even at places like Neiman Marcus for the most part. This way your suit will look much nicer on your frame and will look more expensive than it may be.
