Yes... but you already know that.

Today, 3 months in the bank mostly like wont cut it. I heard the average duration to find a job now is 9 mos+. I would be shooting for 12 mos+ in the bank at a minimum. Not easy to do but something to consider.

Technically I am, as I deposit enough to cover expenses into regular checking with a little but of a buffer in savings, but otherwise do not keep my money in regular bank accounts. Nothing shady, but (albeit slightly) better places to put it (low to penalty free CDs, for example) where you're still liquid enough should you have to call on that money. I haven't had to yet, and don't plan on it, but if I went a few months without a check, I Would half to.

When you're a student..it's paycheck to paycheck; once you've been working a couple/few years if you're still living that way then u spend too much or can't keep a job.

And if you have 3 months of salary in the bank making you no money; you are still doing it wrong.

Yet, these poor students drive BMWs. Parents giving them $ they left out or just not smart with $ at all?

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of folks on this site w/their fancy new cars live that way or damn close to it.

I don't see it as that big a deal in certain situations: You just started working and you love BMW's..it can motivate people to keep working hard. But of course at some point it's time to put some $$$ away.

My family did that when I was a kid. My dad was injured and my parents ate through their savings waiting for him to recover. It took a few years for us to get back on our feet, it was the worst experience of my life.

I never want to live like that again. Hopefully it wont happen. Im on a 90% ride to school and ill be graduating with only 25-30K in debt.

I'm on a 95% ride to college. Saved up 15k over the 4 years I worked in highschool with the purpose of buying myself a car I'd be proud of (it was originally a mustang GT so glad I was swayed away from that descision)

Thanks to my scholarships and almost free higher education (I spent 8K more on highschool a year than I do on college tuition )it freed up the cash for the monthlies.

So some of us poor college students did it as a reward of sorts. Not always a gift to daddys slutty little girl is what I'm trying to say

To anyone who has been/is actually living paycheck to paycheck: WHY?! I understand things come up and you might be stretched thin for a month or two, but why live like that for an extended period of time?

I'm not in that situation, but there are tons of stories about people who lost their jobs and had to take huge paycuts when they finally were able to find a new one.

If that happened to me any job bringing in money is better than having nothing.

I was taught to never ask people, what religion they are, who they voted for, or how much they make. Its none of anyones business.
