They do have a server edition and it works great. One caveat is that most administrators (like myself) tend to use linux-based OS's (e.g., Redhat 6) on their servers than the simpler-to-use Macs (I have experience with both). Why? Because there is more hardware support since you don't have to run an Apple server, and plus we like making our own custom machines for specific applications. Personally, I don't count gaming as a measure of superiority, for my uses. But, with the iOS platform, gaming has definitely increased significantly for Apple users, although still not to the same level as Windows (in terms of games available). Alternatively, with bootcamp you can run any Windows game on your Mac, and it's comparable in performance to a higher-end Windows computer.

They're one of the most profitable companies in the world without having to even touch that market. Most markets that are are in, they dominate.

Hopefully his successors don't reek of douchebaggery like he did/does. He's a genius for sure, and the crux of Apple's resurgence and dominance, but he's just such a dick.
I'm sure he's ingrained his very spirit into those who will replace him. Apple will be fine. My 2nd Gen Nano took a shit yesterday and I'll have to replace it; I guess I can let myself buy another iPod now that he's no longer CEO. |

they are great at tablets and decent at phones.. I have an iPad 2, an Ipod and an iPhone.. I give credit where credit is due.. but their desktops are terrible... and like you said, you even have to bootcamp windows for it to be a complete machine.. why not just use windows? most people's industries use windows, except for hipster graphic designers...

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro and have never missed anything about my old PCs. I have also never used a dual boot on either machine. If anything, the ease of use with all of my other devices is fantastic as they were designed to talk to one another from the onset. For my home needs, I find a PC to be garbagio. 4+ years with my iMac and it still runs like the day I unpacked it. I could NEVER say that about any PC I've owned.

I download copious amounts of music and would get horrendous viruses on my PCs, even with Norton antivirus (waste of money, IMHO). I do the same, if not more, downloading with my Macs and have yet to run into an issue. They just work.

No problems at all on my work PC but all I use that for is spreadsheets and Bloomberg. MS has a clear advantage there but for MY everyday computer, my Mac just works better. I'm not saying that having never used a PC, I'm saying that after a decade and a half of PC experience and 4 years of Mac experience. It's my informed opinion from my personal experience. I fail to see how doing the same thing on both computers with extremely different results could possibly be user error but thanks for the jab.

Mostly because hackers spend no time developing viruses because no one uses them.

Sounds like you're acknowledging the problem with PCs.

This bothers me. People credits Apple for the lack of virus on the MAC. That's just plain silly. The fact that there are less viruses out there for the MAC is because most viruses are written for the PC, not because Apple writes better code. |

There are no viruses on Apple computers because they are running UNIX (OSX is FreeBSD based), not because people don't write or try to write viruses for it. The way UNIX works is completely different. You can not have a "virus" in UNIX/Linux, but you can have a "trojan" and even in that case, the privilege escalation on UNIX is completely different from windows, and you have to deliberately type in root password to do *any* damage. So yes, you can credit Apple in some way for choosing to do this radical step and completely rewriting the OS. I've been using Macs since 1996. OS 7, OS 8 and when OS 9 came out i swore that I will never ever touch another Mac ever again. This is how much of a piece of garbage it was. OS X changed EVERYTHING. I've been saying this for years, and i will say it again. Microsoft needs to start parallel development of a new, UNIX based OS. Continue to support existing line for 10-15 years, while slowly phasing it out and pushing the new OS. Software vendors will slowly adopt and write software for the new OS. Microsoft won't even have to do much, just write a nice interface because all of the footwork has been done.
