Wow. Looks awesome. I wish I could make it November. Really looking forward to at least watching that race.

Thanks, Koop! Great stuff.

For those of us with GA tickets, which "grassy patches" do you think will make for the best viewing?

Hard to tell right now. I'm really looking forward to wandering around on Friday of race weekend. If I didn't have seats I'd probably post up between 2 and 3 or between 6 and 9.

After seeing some pictures of the long grassy area between turns 10 and 11, I'd stay away from there. It actually looks to go downhill from the track rather than uphill. Which would make for pretty terrible viewing angles.

I won't link to the F1 forum from here, but there are some great shots of the track from the tower that were recently released. The tower has a nearly 360 degree view of the track...awesome! The TV coverage of the race should be pretty spectacular.

In other news, the third and final layer of asphalt at CoTA has been put down!

Charlie Whiting and the FIA have done their final inspection and given CoTA their stamp of approval.

"The track design is fantastic, the quality of the workmanship is excellent and I have no concerns at all. This will be a very unique Grand Prix, a lot of types of corners that will provide a lot of overtaking opportunities." - Whiting

Game on!

Thanks for the tips - can't wait!

Just looked at StubHub - the cheapest 3-day GA tickets are now listed at $400. I wonder how high they'll go before that weekend!

October progress at COTA...

Looking good with a fresh coat of the track's signature red paint!

Wow... Looks awesome!

What are you all doing for parking? We thought about paying a little extra to park at one of the new lots they opened closer to the track, but I think we're going to end up doing the Park & Ride from Austin (my brother lives on the west side of town).

Tickets are supposed to show up sometime in the next couple weeks, right?

Yep, should have tickets in a couple of weeks.

I'm in Lot A, we're piling a suburban full of people so we don't have to mess with the shuttles.

Getting close now!

Well...it's officially official! Circuit of the Americas is open for business!

The opening ceremony was this weekend...highlights included Mario Andretti taking the first lap in his 1978 Championship-winning Lotus F1 car and Belgian test driver Jerome D'Ambrosio taking a few laps in a modern Lotus F1 car. Several other racing cars were in attendance to represent the other events that are scheduled for next year.

Andretti's First Lap:

I think that old Lotus has seen better days! Or maybe Andretti needs to lay off the good 'ole Texas BBQ.

D'Ambrosio's Lap:

And a couple of shots from the event (credit to CoTA):

Wouldn't have minded taking that Enzo for a lap!

You can see the rest of the photos and description of the event at the Circuit of the Americas website.

Oh, and I'll just leave this here...

Hmm haven't heard anything about that, sorry.

I am doing a track walk (run) tomorrow, though!
