Anyone know a nice place to live that in convenient to Tokyo and Machida? I saw Machida is on the Yokohama and Odakyu lines but I am having a tough time finding a map that shows clearly where the lines run and what cities are in between.

Doesn't look like there is a subway line or railway line.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en...0489&z=12&om=1

I don't remember any subway or railway line that goes south-west of Tokyo.

Tokyo may seem like a city to foreigners, but it is as big as a state.

Yeah there is, it is on the Yokohama and Odakyu lines.

See the dot that says J.F. Oberlin is where I need to be near. It is halfway between the blue (Yokohama) and yellow (Odakyu) lines.

So I was looking for somewhere convenient to Machida and Tokyo, maybe on the Odakyu line. I saw Shinjuku is a central location since it is the largest railroad station in the world and it would be nonstop either to Machida or Tokyo from there but I was having difficulties finding housing and I'm not sure exactly what the area is like. It also seems to be about an hour from Machida so something closer to Machda would be better.

Sorry the hijack the thread, if anyone wants to PM me that would be cool.

Alright guys. The wife would absolutely kill me if I made our trip to Japan all about cars. I'm looking for good photo op places (Nikki ideas here?) or things that just shouldn't be missed. I don't know all that much about Japan and its our first trip to Asia.
Thanks for the ideas!

Don't worry, if you haven't been to Japan, you will be so "cultural shocked" that every opportunity is a Kodak's moment.

My bad, there is a JR Railway line: http://www.odakyu.jp/english/railmap/index.html

Shinjuku is nice, but it is one of the most expensive places to stay in Tokyo (comparable to Upper East Side in Manhattan). It is one of the busiest subway station in the world, more than 2M passengers go through Shinjuku in a single day.

I think you will find something more reasonable closer to Machda. While I was working there, I know locals often travel 2 1/2 hours each way to work. No wonder the suicide rate is so high, what a miserable life.

Japan ideas?
Not going to Tokyo Disney as I live in So Cal and right down the street from Disneyland I'd much rather see the true sights of Japan.
Other thoughts?
