I was driving down alligator alley in South Florida, the V1 starts off beeping the Ka band and showing 1 signal ahead of me. V1 starts beeping around 78 miles on my trip computer with me traveling at aprox. 70mph. As I'm approaching the first bogey the V1 signals a 2nd bogey has appeared. As the first bond the cop were closing at 70mph towards each other) the V1 indicates the cop driving past me, but continues to show another signal still coming from ahead. Eventually the signal from the first cop weakens, but is still there as the rear arrow is lit up, and the forward arrow starts to flash showing that the bogey ahead is the stronger signal. At 82 miles on my trip odometer (another 2 miles warning) a state trooper drives by. Without the arrows I might have thought I was still picking up that first cop and had a false 2 signal reading from the signal bouncing off other vehicles or something like that. Video of the encounter:

I know some people with the ci. IMO it is way overpriced especially when you consider it includes sub-par laser "shifters" (jammers). Real enthusiasts recommend the Bel STi-r + which is the ci radar reciever w/o the crappy jammers. And then add either Laser Interceptor or Blinder 905's for jammin'.

I have had both radars. Let's put it this way. If you are looking for a radar for pure performance, the V1 without a doubt. It will give you the most range and I don't care what anyone says I'll take the arrows over any GPS any day.
If you are looking for something that has more "bling" or features and something more quite. I would go with a 9500ix. I'm not biased at all. Both are great radars and have different uses for both. I originally bought the 9500 but it was not for me. Its definitely a lot quiter, but that bugs me. Having my valentine I KNOW I have something there to protect me. Whereas I didn't even know my 9500 was in the car. I gave that to my dad and upgraded to a v1. I wouldn't sell my V1 for the world. Loving every second of it. It has never let me down. Hope you make the right decision! GL! |

No matter where the signal from you are going to slow down. I have had a 9500ix and now I have an 8500ci plus. The v1s arrows are a gimmick. If the radar is in front or behind you you are going to slow down. It's not like you are going to say oh he is behind me. I am going to accelerate. Lol.

I have the v1 and I really enjoy it. Mine is hardwired and I have the "savy" unit that it pretty slick and makes the daily drive less annoying. The savy connects to the obd port and reads the MPH of the car. It has a wheel on it that you select a speed (mine is at 45 MPH) below which it defaults to the "mute" volume. You get an initial alert (quick bleep according to what kind of radar it detects) then it shuts up.
Most of my driving is around town and I don't speed very often during the daily drive, so I really appreciate my radar detector not bleeping and beeping all the time. On the highway, when I am above 45 mph, I get the full benefit of the V1 alert system. Does the trick for me and I really like what the savy unit adds for driving around town. If I remember correctly the savy was an extra $40. |

I bit the bullet and got the passport and so far I am loving it. It is one neat little piece of technology and I would see recommend it to others.
