If it's not production, who the hell cares? Just like that M1 crap they pulled on us.

This is really interesting. The tease pic only shows 2 doors and it is a coupe and not a roadster.
6 series just came out so I highly doubt this is 6 series replacement or a V12 version of 6 series. My bet is on this is the new Concept CS with just 2 doors? Either way, it will probably be called 8 series and compete with Mercedes CL, etc. |

You do know that the e-class "coupe" is a rebranded CLK-class based on the c-class right? It's about as different to the c-class as the A5 is to the A4. The only real e-class coupe based on the e-class sedan is the CLS class. The 6er competes with the CLS, SL and Jag XK, not the e-class coupe.

Can't they use in house engineer to come up with design instead of hiring an outside firm to do so?

It'll be a rebodied 6-er, with styling by PF, it won't go into production, and it will split opinions as to whether its gorgeous, or hideous... same as the Zagato Z4.
I'm looking forward to it, but it's always frustrating when nothing comes of these concepts. |

Pininfarina designed all recent Ferraris including the 430, 458, 599, California, FF and F12. They are also responsible for icons like the F40 and Enzo. That said, they are also responsible for some incredibly ugly econoboxes like the Hyundai Matrix and the Chery A3. The Pinininfarina name does not guarantee something beautiful, but they are capable.

A BMW designed by Pininfarina!!!! Holly MOOLLY Please make this happen..
Cars should be engineered and built by Germans and designed by Italians (Italians are not allowed to touch anything in the assembly line )

OOOOOOH anything from designer pininfarina is incredible! From the preliminary sketches looks like it's going to be an incredible design and work of art!

They could, but the whole point of this exercise is to apply two different design methodologies into one just like with the previous Zagato Coupe.

Good question.
I don't know, I guess it registers under the numerous "special editions" that BMW is spawning lately for every series. If it turns like something really awesome I would like to see it produced but preferably I would want this to be a new design, if - as some have said - this could be something akin an 8-series successor then it would HAVE to be a new design not just a restyled 6-series with a V12. |
