The Cayman S just breezed through this course. No drama and Randy had fun with that car. No doubt the winner of Day one.

Garage List
2008 135i  [6.50]
Motor Trend is such a rag. They put together a random collection of expensive cars they managed to get a hold of (plus a Ford Focus) and then try to come up with some way to compare them. I'm surprised they didn't include a pickup or SUV.

Other personal favorites:

Focus ST
BMW M6
Audi R8

(in that order)
Watch the first video. This explains why they chose the cars they do. They don't pick the "best" track car from all manufacturers, they pick cars that have been updated or a new car entirely to compare.
They also answer the reason why there's no Corvette Stingray. The fact that they filmed this in April I think they spent too much time discussing the Stingray. That was WAY too early for GM to get them a completely brand new car. Considering we're just now seeing more and more cars at different venues (i.e. Pebble Beach).

My vote goes for the Cayman S. Although I think they let too much out of the bag with the way they spoke about the SLS Black.

I don't find this test very fair, some cars have more than two seats, they have a proper trunk and more gizmos, so more weight. What is Mercedes Wagon doing in here?

"A driver's car" definition it is different from a person to another.
McLaren is a driver's car, however it has a single focus: driving experience.

Or to build a car that is practical, can be used as a DD, can seat 4 with their luggage, be comfortable for long trips, engineered to maintain a 50/50 ratio and with plenty of power ready to fight with another dedicated car, this is where BMW M6 shines.
M6 has the whole package and it is already winner in my list. Who gives a s#!t about Motortrend opinion?

Oops, didn't see that the Cayman was on the list and chose the 4S. Although, now that I think about it, they may choose the 4S just because of it's rear engine layout.

The e63 estate could be on the list because of what a ridiculously fast big machine it is.

577 hp.
590 pound feet torque.
0-60 3.6. It will be closer to 3.4 I think.
And it is a WAGON.
Give me some of that and haul people and what not too.

E63 sAMG estate and a Cayman S or Boxster S...pretty complete garage to me.
I am a bit older than the median on here too.

did you watch the hotlap of the e63 estate? it pulled a pretty good time. I wonder if AMG engineered this car different than the other AMGs or if Mr. Pobst was driving it properly on the track eg. no drifting, smoke everywhere, AMG muscle car style. He said it was set up to understeer and be safe?!

The 14' e63 estate/saloon are now 4Matic .
It's the only way to keep them from just spinning the rubber off.

I like sleepers, even though a trained eye will know what the thing will do to them.

"dude...that station wagon just blew your doors off"
Love it.

4matic boooo.....how about take the time to engineer the WHOLE car not just make a beast engine and say shit it needs 4matic now. I hope the new c63s aren't 4matic that would be just lame.

Uh...
I think AMG engineers know what they are doing.
I don't think you will see 4Matic in a C or SLS AMG anytime soon.

The e63 estate was not designed (this time) for the customer who wants to go drift his wagon. Its an all weather hauler that hauls ass.

if AMG can build a chassis that can actually use all that power to the ground....holy hell...for now, they are just modern day muscle cars.
