I have a ML63.You might not like how it drives and it is probably better than a GL. It is luxurious SUV with a great exhaust note and does better than most SUVs in terms of driving.
However, compared to the X5M it is softer and I dislike the "logic" of the electronics (other than having tire pressures for each tire noted). MBrace is much less functional and costs over $200 per year. As other have said, it depends on what you want - for utility a AMG or M SUV is probably not the most reasonable choice anyways. I should disclose that I have not driven the RR and that I am waiting for the ML lease to end so I can replace it with a M5 - daughter will be old enough to ride in a booster seat by then. ![]() |

You ever consider the Cayenne. A little on the pricey side depending on options but wow is it an amazing vehicle.

Cayenne is one of my fav. Longest SUV we have ever kept. Most fun to drive !!!!!! Getting rid of our turbo @ 90k miles next month for the QX 80.
Just too small for the fam now =;(. If you have one kido it's a great ride. |

We do, a Cayenne S very very loaded, costs as much as the M5 out the door. With PDCC and PTV it does incredible things that no car that big has the right to. It is also the longest vehicle we have ever kept and I am struggling to understand what I would replace it for next year (I try and sell before the 3 year mark). Ironically the dealer offered me only 5k less on the Cayenne trade then the M5 that has only 6000km (Cayenne 15000km) and is 1 year older. So yes I highly recommend!!

IMO the new range rover sport is the way to go! The review on TG definitely helped shape my opinion, and after owning a range rover sport for the past 3 years, I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.

G-class ftw if that's too brutish i guess the new full size RR is awesome...but none of you have mentioned the lexus lx570...very big and very comfortable, albeit less sporty.

Funny, we are going through this right now. Need to pull the trigger on something around Dec. Wife loves her RRS SC, I don't like it. The new one is interesting, especially after seeing it on Top Gear. She is going to the launch here at Newport Range Rover and going to check it out...we'll see. I think it'll be a Cayenne for us...

The RR sport is a completely different car to a range rover. It has a completely different chassis and suspension system. That said, the new (this years model) RR sport is the same as a range rover. Most people I know that have range rovers have had reliability issues. Although that is better now. |

It appears as if I am too late but my vote would be for the GL63 AMG all day.
I just replaced my M Sport F30 335i with a C63 and anticipate replacing my 750i xDrive with an ML63.

The RR is in another league. The only car I'd bother comparing it to is a new-gen Cayenne S or Turbo.
The X5 M is a decent looking SUV with a satisfactory interior and great performance, but it's dated and heavier compared to the big guns coming from Porsche and LR.
