I always liked the e46 look back when I could not afford one. By the time I could the new e90 body style came out and I hated it. Once the coupe came out I liked that a lot better and bought my 335i. I never go use to the interior look of the car and had nothing but issues with it and the dealer.

Anyways ended up getting a 128i for the gf and LOVED that car. It was bare bone, sport package, 6spd and xenons. Although it didn't have the power of my 335i I just liked driving it more. It felt more nimble and more immediate. So I started my search for an e46 M3 which was my first true love to replace the 335i. While searching for M3s I came across the Z4M after like 2 years of looking I found a great deal on one and never looked back. Best BMW I've owned.

My biggest concern is if/when the time comes to get rid of it there is NOTHING in that price point I would consider (at least not right now).

Turbo cars are great
Twin turbo cars even better

Looked and drove 03 Audi rs6 but opted for newer 08 335

I love the power and the luxury. Although I'm only stage 1 + , I still consider my 335 the ultimate sleeper

Being judged. It's not about how much you can afford vs how much you can finance nowadays. People that do judge are idiots and are just jealous
Some people say "wow you drive a bmw! Must be nice"
I respond, "yes it is"
-and my car payment is less then your brand new Hyundai so what's that tell ya

An E46 is not that old of a car, and regular maintenance will always be less expensive than buying a new car.

I was looking for a new car recently and, after being jerked around by several dealers with hidden "fees", I started opening my options for other cars. I had always been a Japanese car guy (mostly Nissans and Acuras) but always admired BMWs, especially the 1-series. I thought I'd never be able to afford a 135 until I found a good CPO in my price range this past summer. Before I knew, it I was driving home with a 2011 135i!

my neighbor had a green e36 back in the day, I had no clue wut it was or anything about it (it was a 328i) but I fell in love with it and wanted a e36 m3 as my first car when I could drive but then my friend got a brand new e46 m3 and that thing just got me crazy so I wanted a e46 m3 but couldn't afford it back then so ended up with a e46 325ci.. ever since then I've tried Mercedes and Porsche but have been through 4 bmws and bmw > all imo

Ewww N54. You filthy E90post scum.

1M is nice, though.

For me; I loved the S65. There's nothing like it. Except maybe a C63...

Had only been the owner of 3 brands of cars:

Merc:
High-end models are very comfy... Wife loves the s-class and it's the car that that we'd take on a road trip. The c-class was somewhat crappy... A great fvck around vehicle... It was my first car and it had it's fair share of parking lot burnouts. Lots of HS memories in that car (mostly doing retarded crap).

Lexus:
Meh. Gets me from A to B. Nothing more, nothing less. They do have to most gizmos for their price range.

BMW:
The car that I enjoy driving the most. Recently got my 4th bimmer. Tested the S5 and E350. Even gave the CLA45 some thought. But at the end, I had to get the 4-series.

For me the reason I drive BMW can be boiled down to the existence of the 850i in the 1990's during my formative teen years, followed by my first BMW, an E36 325i 6MT, which solidified my love for the brand.

Ddk632 BMW timeline

19xx - Drove tiny BMW out of the birth canal, set lap record
1996 - 850i held my heart in that "I will never be able to have this" sort of way, used to argue about specs, with other kids on the bus
1999 - Friend of brother purchased brand new $40k 328i (when the 328 was top 3er) and I drooled over it while he wouldn't let anyone touch "the paint"
2001 - New dream car, the BMW M Coupe, became obsessed but couldn't afford it. Still dream car today, going to pick one up someday!
2003 - Sold my old but loved 1994 Toyota 4Runner for a 1993 E36 325i 6MT. My first own BMW. The 6MT was pure sporting joy to drive in the canyons in LA.
2005 - First BMW loses fight with freeway center divider, retires from service. I went car-less for a while, just had 2 bikes.

2006 - Purchased 2001 E46 325Ci. My 2nd BMW and still love the pre-LCI E46 Coupes everytime I see them, especially the M3's
2007 - Moved to Florida, shipped my E46; 1st day here purchased 2006 BMW K1200R motorcycle. Now I had 2 BMWseseseses.

2010 - Sold 2001 E46 325Ci after spending tons of money in maintenance. Leased a 2010 E71 BMW X6 35i for the upcoming mini-ddk632 (daughter). My 3rd BMW, totally awesome and loved vehicle.

X6 on Blue Ridge Parkway by ddk632, on Flickr

2011 - Sold the BMW motorcycle after 2nd gear tranny issue. Replaced with Ducati Diavel which made up for it.
2012 - Traded the X6 for an MB GL550 for the future ex wife. Inherited her hand me down 2009 Merc SLK 300. Withdrawal symptoms and heavy mental instability due to lack of BMW in life for this year.

2013 - Built to order an MCB X6M w/Mugello Red interior (Superman combo) exactly how I wanted her, and we have lived happily ever after together. Took delivery at BMW Performance Center on January 17th, 2013, then road tripped it via Tail of the Dragon back to Florida and gave her the break in she deserves!!! She is my 4th BMW not including the motorcycle, and I already have a deposit down for the 5th BMW - an i8 - which will join the X6M together in one garage, as she's a keeper and I ain't letting her go! Nearly 18,000 miles later I still get excited every time I get into my X6M!

my car was hitting 110k and all of main engine compartment was going out. every month I would have to spend couple of hundred dollars to keep the car running. let's not forget about subframe issue.

I've always loved the M3 but when it came time to buy a car that I truly wanted I initially avoided the BMW as 3-series are a dime a dozen around here. I wanted something at least a little different.

After looking at other cars I finally realized that no better package exists for the money. Other cars are faster, may corner better, may look better, etc. But, for $75k loaded, none offer as much as the M3.
