So is it just dudes in here unsuccessfully trying to change the others' opinions on 202 pages?

To answer the question in the tile of this thread, yes, these days I would want an EV. Mainly for short city trips that I hate starting my cars for. My mechanical sympathy is so high that it hurts me to repeatedly cold start x times a day just to run errands. If I need to, then I tend to drive the long way to get the engine up to temp for that reason.

A 500e, MINI SE, ID3, anything that's reasonably small. Zippy, all the torque down low, no maintenance, silence.

Thankfully, I've got access to great public transport so I commute by train and don't need to use the car for work or top-up shops.

Having said that, I've put enough miles on all the current 7 Series/i7 variants to have kind of fallen in love with the BEV luxo barge experience. It's really something else to be able to travel in something that is so quiet. The BEV powertrain suits the car a lot. The i4 GC is also a very usable EV daily; they've done a great job with that car.

However, the G70 BEV is on the upper spectrum of BEVs that are somewhat meaningful. It is colossal and very much overweight at 6,200 lbs.

The world definitely is definitely not benefitting from these oversized, overweight BMW limousines, let alone electric Hummer pick up trucks that take up three parking spaces and weigh as much as the Pentagon.

Such new creations, though, very accurately depict the idiocy of the current world in which airlines are flying thousands of empty ghost flights yet citizens are being greenwashed.

Insurance for his P-car EV has gone up from £640 to £3142. UK specific.

I live in So Cal and have a Tesla in additional to the BMW. My experience with electric car ownership has been fantastic and I don't even charge at home. There is a Tesla supercharger a block from my office. I have 4 within 10 miles of where I live. The car surprisingly has better steering feel that my M2. Decently fun and is absurdly cheap to operate. Even took a road trip to Washington in it.

I'll always have a 3 pedal car in the fleet, but I'm here for the electric future. My only complaints are really more with Tesla as an auto manufacturer (autopilot, camera vs lidar, etc) versus the actual electric car ownership.

2035 date aside if you are thinking of purchasing an EV then you need to watch this in it's entirety before deciding, sorry if it 'sucks' for some and like the journo says if you want ad free vids then move up to Prime. Again UK specific but may apply to many places overseas.

The videos above are from The MacMaster. He has over 1500 videos on YT. Out of fear of them all being posted here is a link to his video page. Some of the vids are on fish and chips and his struggles to get a good full English breakfast so it's not all EV blight, murder and mayhem.

It's like reading a Saturday Night Live skit. Stupid comedy. If governments weren't financially backing these things and eventually forcing adoption EV would have have died off years ago.

It's literally a joke being played on the public.
Road tripping a Tesla in the US works well for most places. If you get off the beaten path into a remote area then it's an issue way more than an ICE vehicle. My wife and I did use her SUV on a road trip in to the mountains. The town we were visiting did not have great recharge resources and the house did not have an outdoor charge option evident. The town has voted to install level 2 chargers available to the public soon and the issue will likely melt away as I want to return in the future.

Things will keep getting better is my suspicion.

The trip reports I've read indicate constant monitoring of battery SOC and managing/planning for charging stops as the trip unfolds.

Several reports speak of the comradadry between EV'ers charging up, chatting each other up, admiring each other's rides, etc. One comment I've read several times about talking with other EV'ers while charging, "You don't get that at a gas pump." Well no shit Sherlock, no one wants to chat up for just 5 minutes while their ICEV is recharging. That's the point, you are stuck there for 40 minutes while you recover 120 miles of range. You've got time to kill. Lol.

I doubt things will "get better" anytime soon. It sounds like a complete cluster F. In an ICEV, you hit a 1/8th tank and start looking for a gas station. Use a navigation app (like Garrmin) and 5 gas stations show up within the next 3 miles.
Definitely just referencing Tesla for the US market.

No objection to the one on Spanish tapas. Brought back some great memories from a May trip.
