Nice moons! I shot some last night, but went straight to bed afterward. I will see what I got when I get home tonight. Pinole pretty much = Martinez as far as visibility goes.

Looks fine, as long as you can keep it steady and the noise down, it doesn't matter.
I'd bring up the exposure and saturation just a tic for effect though.

Looks like your weather improved Mark!

Nice GBH Dave. Those things always look kind of awkward to me when they take off and land.

It's not snowing, but it was windy and chilly today. not the best book sale weather. Cool moon shot. That lens continues to impress.

You lucked out, DC. I stood around for 2 hours once waiting for the GBH near me to fly and he wouldn't. He was just content to stroll along the shore.

The lens is really great on stationary targets. I am taking it with me this Friday on a "double zoo" trip (Oakland zoo in the morning (they have 5 tigers!), and the SF zoo in the afternoon (Polar and Grizzly Bears)), to see how it does in that environment. I will have my old trusty 100-400 along as well.

Both Herons and Egrets can be very patient hunters, not moving for hours, so yeah, been there done that

Thanks Dave. That one was shot with my "standard" full moon manual handheld setting of f8 1/1000 at iso400.

It was just setting this morning when I left so I tried a couple at 1/500 at iso200. I will see how that turned out tonight when I get home.

Interested to see. I generally don't think that you gain enough at the lower ISO to offset the potential loss of sharpness due to the slower SS, particularly hand held. I have no qualms about using ISO 800 as a default.

Once you get the basics of astro moon shots down, then the atmosphere is the most likely culprit. After the Blood Moon, the setting moon, near sunrise, looked spectacular, but I had too much smog to get the detail that I like.

The ratio of female to male northern harriers is about 4 to 1, so I have been pretty lucky with the gray ghost lately.
