such a horrible race for Mercs...
it ll take time for them to be faster or with one trick they can start to use the package much much efficiently..

Red Bull was performing solid all weekend long.. well done to RB!

such a big disappointment for Ferraris and Leclerc.. sort of same thing happened to him during FP2.. he ıs a very smart guy that he ll come out from the even more stronger.. things are looking pretty good for Ferraris speed though.. probably tifosi were waiting for this for so long..

Good pics and today no qualms about showing the underfloor as any new parts must be declared to Fia.

I don't think the declaration stops the copying, because as long as the team does their own engineering and design they could copy everything from another team, they just gotta show their work.

The thing that stops the copying imo, is the complexity of ground effects.

You mentioned that in your previous post, it's pointless other teams copying and wasting their budget on something that would unlikely work, it all depends partly on what's hidden in between the floor and the outer body.
Naturally the front wing and splitter design is the entry force of the air that the floor and side pods have to react to together with the action of the rear diffuser and wing.
A team that can get it right will actually be making their car go quicker solely with the forced out air from the back pushing the car forward and more so with weight reduction.

No I don't think that's actually possible, because the point of the diffuser is to Increase the exit volume of the floor to promote better "reintegration" of the air flow out from under the car. This means the air flow will smoothly transition from the high speed low pressure due to the venturi tunnels into a large volume high pressure surrounding air, and this is critical to maintain the smooth air flow under the car and prevent separation. It's job isn't to provide thrust, it's to condition exiting air and improve down force generation of the floor. Of course air flow manipulation around and over the diffuser can increase rear down force over the diffuser area but that's another complex topic.

So the main reasons why the diffuser air doesn't create thrust is because it expands the air, and this does the opposite of compressing it (like what the under floor does) - so air flow slows in speed and expands meaning it contains less energy and doesn't provide much thrust. Also it's not like a rocket engine where fuel ignition provides heat and massive expansion of gasses to create thrust. The air flow coming out of the diffuser is fed from the mouth of the venturi tunnels, and in an ideal world where all the air is sealed within the tunnels what comes out must be what comes in, so there's no additional air flow to make thrust. However we must account for the drag these fences and tunnels contribute, and in the end there is a net drag effect on the car rather than a net thrust effect.

So I don't think there will be any thrust gains, especially since priority number 1 is using it to manage underbody flow. But I could be wrong since I'm no aerodynamics expert. But if this were the case the F1 technical guys would be going nuts over it.

If you think about it air going into something then being forced out from the back at a greater intensity, like a hoover with reverse thrust, would make motion going forward

There's no such thing as free energy. Anything that creates a force (like downforce) is going to also create induced drag. Scoops that funnel air are going to create parasitic drag. That drag increases with the square of the speed.

Well said.

I can't believe how many people still down play what a generational monster Max is. On top of being the most gifted driver on the grid, he's an incredible no b/s interviewer, has a great but dry sense of humor about himself and bad race circumstances.

He's basically the worst enemy to the virtue signaler type - no exaggerated victim life story, no exaggerated b/s interviews like Russel, no deep instagram stories about being an underdog and persevering through the difficulties of being a millionaire F1 driver.

He's just a man that can outdrive every actor on the grid and it's very obvious through his early karting years that Jos raised him to be a man and take his destiny into his own hands.

Interesting pictures of the floors

Not all the details are visible, but to me the RB floor looks very different from the Ferrari floor and MERC floor (which look a bit more the same).

Those air channel guides at the front of the floor (which guide the air to the side and create the downforce behind that) look way less aggressive on the RB floor than on the Ferrari and Merc floor.
Spaced further apart and I think it has 1 lamel less.
So maybe less downforce and better suitable to guide turbulent air where the Ferrari and MERC lamels convert the air to more laminair flow?
Maybe less is more and the reason the RB car has the least porpoising?
The lamel air guides on the MERC look the largest and most aggressive.

Of course it's a combination of front wing, aero from the wishbones and the floor, and the sidepods on top; they all work together.

No tree hugger nonsense about how F1 is bad for the planet, when in fact it breeds innovation for all types of industries.

Precisely why I love him. He has turned me into a RedBull fan - even Vettel didn't do that for me and his championship years were incredible to watch.

He's a master of his craft, he goes to work, he delivers, and he handles interviews masterfully. There's no fluff - he knows why he's in F1. The very definition of an ideal pilot.

This is also why RB offered him one of the longest, most lucrative contracts.
They know they have gold in their hands with Max.

Max acting strange

I saw a interview clip in which Max acted a bit unusual from his normal demeanor. He was smiling and almost nervous.

The clip was focused on Max, no visual of the person asking the questions.

I saw the full clip today which solved the mystery.

I should have known it was Federica Masolin.
