I'll try and dig it up but apparently there was some tension there. BMW saying look at these magnificent performance numbers and the efficiency is amazing, Toyota raise an eyebrow, suitably impressed.... then start testing. At this point heads start shaking with lots of swearing in Japanese and German.

I've owned 8 BMW's. 2 Halo cars and 3 EV's amongst the group. Prefer to drive nothing else. I WOULDN'T drive anything else but those son***bi***es won't send the 530e Touring across the pond. As well as the X1e. Or the X2e ASS***** So I have to settle for a Volvo V60 Polestar. Only hybrid wagon in the U.S. worth looking at. You wanna talk about problems with hardware and software? Yeah. BMW IS head and heels above Volvo for that. But BMW being the "most reliable build quality"? No way. Superb CARS. But Toyota and Honda build "toasters" that everybody drives. Tick tock clock reliable. Perfect build quality. And much cheaper than BMW's. But no soul. None. BMW is the perfect amount of "alpha romeo" infused into a Toyota/Honda that gives it life, and soul, but also introduces just enough unreliability to make it a pain in the ass from time to time. Some of the part number changes. Likely that the Supra engine will be more reliable than the BMW match. They chose more expensive BMW parts for the builds. Shawn |

Agreed. My brother bought a 2019 rav4. I rode in it for the first time since going with him that day 3 years ago to the dealer, on fathers day and it drove exactly the same way i remember it when we test drove it 3 years ago. I think he has 40k miles and nothing in the interior rattles, every bump he hits still feels incredibly solid. Only thing is that it's slow as fuck. But he's happy because it gets good MPG and he can haul his wife and kid around. I was just saying people on this forum, just because we own BMW's, that it's the best. It isn't. I like ALL cars, i don't necessarily have a particular favorite when it comes to overall usability. Now toys i prefer corvettes. But i have a '22 model 3 and it has been incredible since day 1. No glitches in the screen, no rattles. There are like 2 interior panel gaps i found early on but i don't care about that. The paint is ok, body panels so far (only hand washed it twice in 3 months) look perfect. I don't notice any defects with this car besides the 2 small interior gaps by the rear seating. But yet i have 2 rattles in my M3. |

Take a Mercedes S class for example. Typically, unreliable piece of GARBAGE. But almost every SINGLE new feature that appears on mainstream cars appeared on an S class FIRST. Does that make it a great car? No. But the damn thing just oozes class and "newfangledly" cool stuff to try out. I'm not saying unreliability comes as a good thing. It doesn't. But it does come when you are TRYING new things. Shawn |

So it is. I preached against BMW's for eons, until 2014 after my Impreza got stuck in the snow because of inadequate ground clearance.
Best small SUV at that time with all the "things" was a 2014 x1. Have bought little other than BMW's since, and most of the "other" cars have been massive disappointments in one way or the other. Loved the other BMW's and let them go only for lifestyle or utility reasons. None of them are or were perfect, but they sure are damn good drivers cars. Shawn |

I have zero desire to ever have another go in an F30. If I knew what I was getting into, wouldn't have bothered with the first driving experience.

When my impreza got stuck, it high centered. None of the tires were able to get full traction. I have a job where getting there is not optional, and its time pressure as well. Couldv'e been tank tracks and wouldn't have helped. Shawn |

I know someone with a Tesla who lives out of town, no road tax, no servicing? really, a charge point in the driveway convenient to their lifestyle with a laser light show to cheer you up. The scuttle is so low that I was praying it won't go under something if the brake fluid boiled and the battery longevity is a big question mark, I'm also seing more Tesla's on breakdown trucks.
Great when new but what happens when time goes on and the battery cries enough, it simply goes on the ever mounting problem of a huge mountain of rising scrap and of course the propensity for the batteries to ignite at any given moment. The recent car transporter ship burning carrying EV's off Portugal then sinking causing environmental catastrophe for marine life is more trouble than it's worth. |

They are actively clearing massive tracts of rain forest in the Philippines to mine Nickel for EV batteries. How green is that? I'm all for making EV's the next mode of transportation, but we need to slow down and not be stupid about it.

I am not really an EV fan after quite considerable research and driving. I think Tesla has done a lot to usher in adoption but the convenience and range just isn’t there. If you are strictly an urban driver and can charge overnight at home, then it can work. But if you drive like I do, lots of longer drives or mixed driving, then no it’s not really feasible. The only car I have been tempted by is the Porsche Taycan so far, but just doesn’t have the range. Cold temps affect all EVs and slow battery longevity decline is a thing. So you will never get as good range as you did when you first bought the car. I am waiting for the Macan EV to come out as I believe it will have more range and will be Porsches second generation of EV. I love the Macan platform, having owned a Turbo, so want to see what it will be like.

Good point about the shrinking gas tank that all EVs have as a built-in feature.
