True. In fact if you live in an evacuation zone along the coast you need to evacuate when a storm is approaching regardless of what you have for storm protection.

We live 20 miles west of the Atlantic coast in South FL. When we bought the house, I had someone put up the shutters to make sure we had all the hardware. They thought I was crazy and said I would never need to put them up. I have put them up 4x now in 14 years. The worst damage we had (which was still relatively minor compared to others) came from Wilma, which landed on the west coast and came all the way across the state. A big storm can damage anywhere, but clearly the coast is most susceptible.

My house was built in 1998 and has (heavy) galvanized steel shutters that need to be carried around the house and put up when a storm in on the way. I had someone out them up last summer when Matthew was on the way but had to take them down and bring them to the garage myself. I hadn't needed to put them up in the previous 10 years but put them up 3 times in 2 years before that. After taking them down this year, I concluded I didn't want to do it again - I AM getting older.

Presuming they are put up properly the steel shutters are probably about as safe as you can get but are a hassle to put up. Motorized metal shutters are an option but probably cost as much as impact glass if you need to run electric to them. There are other options in between (accordion shutters, clear plastic type shutters, fabric) but I think glass is the way to go for us. Aside from never worrying about protection (including when on vacation), they will add to the value of the house, cut electric costs pretty significantly (energy efficient) and allow light to come in instead of behind shuttered.

Bottom line - not something to obsess over, but if moving here, I'd try to understand what the home you are buying or renting has for protection and find something that has something already. Too late to figure out when a storm is on the way. There are some good videos on uTube showing how the impact glass protects vs. regular glass.

No doubt better safe than sorry. But in the last 43 years I've lived in FL I've never had protective hurricane gear and code wasn't even half as stringent as it was just 15 years ago.

Like you said, when a big cat 3 or higher comes knocking, pick I95 or I75 and gtfo. If I lived on the east coast or in S FL, my game plan would be much different. The first tactic I'd implement would be to move north west. But the hurricane factor would have little to do with that decision. :

Diesel's new "Lunar New Year" collection added a new wash (084BV) to their Belther jean style I like so much. I already have 848Z, 666Q, 675B, 854S, and 850U washes, so adding this new darker blue was a forgone conclusion.

Since I was on the site I picked up a T-shirt on sale too...

Vintage cuff links, found them into a shop overseas into the US few days ago. Absolutely mint condition, age unknown, very cheap according to OEM prices of the MFR plus they wouldnt ship outside of Sweden.
A long search is done

Ah, thats generation 93 - 96. Be careful with the insert buttons when removing the inner lining, sometime the pins slips through the hole and must be replaced then
And I surely would remove the patch...

Good tip! For the price, it is a really nice quality jacket. Undecided on the patch! I kind of like the look and surely no one here in the US will mistake me for an actual police officer. The large, reflective letters on the back are coming off...

Good buy. I just sold my 2011 27" to replace with a new one. I generally keep them for 4-5 years and sell them, usually get 60-75% of the cost back in many cases.

I would recommend you to use some cloth color to black out the reflective letters caused by really harming the leather when trying to remove them. As the glue under them is build to last lots of years, you would surely made some scratches or surface damage to the jacket.
