The ones that weren't widely advertised were the best ones. You had to be "in" to know where they're at. In fact, I remember when Moby came to Seattle and he wasn't quite the mainstream star yet and did a gig at one of these parties and I completely blacked out before he even made an appearance. Too many drinks and "supplements" ruined my evening. I owned (actually still lying around somewhere I'm sure) tons of CD compilations that I need to dig up. I really liked: The Shamen The Prodigy Human Resource ("Dominator") Joey Beltram Paul Oakenfold and a bunch of artists that came out with their one hit wonders I used to love BT and recently started listening to his old stuff again. Classic stuff. Nowadays I really like Prog House style music and have gotten into what's referred to as Future Garage and also Minimal Tech. So many good artists from around the world I've discovered. And as some may have discovered by my entries in the What are You Listening to Now thread I've posted a bunch of stuff from Synkro and Matt Lange. Probably my two favorites producers/artists right now. |

I still listen to Fat of the Land and Hawtin sets when doing cardio. A few others that I've come to enjoy recently are Nina Kraviz (her boiler room set is amazing - it's on youtube), Maceo Plex, and although they aren't "new finds" I can't discuss this topic without mentioning Jon Digweed, Sasha, Carl Cox and Hernan Cettaneo. Really like some BT as well. Oakenfolds spin of Led Zeppelins "Babe I'm Going to Leave You" was great!

"Micro dosing and Tiesto". Jesus H. You should slap them. Oh yeah, Digweed, Sasha, Carl Cox, there were just so many. I forgot to mention how much I used to like Paul van Dyk who actually did collaborative work with BT. Of course this isn't rave stuff though. I guess I eventually graduated or moved on to more mellow and melodic stuff .
There was a time I really liked Balearic style trance(?) and various genres. Gatecrasher compilations had a lot of cool stuff. This would be in the later 90s I think. Ahhh I sometimes miss the old days and being more carefree and having fewer concerns in life. I guess that's what I confess in order for it to coincide with the theme of this thread. Lol. |
