So Zin Port is allowed here?
In the sippin thread somebody recommended this. I ordered a bottle for my BILIL for Christmas and picked one up myself. Finally tonight I'm not on call and can enjoy Very deep sugar profile! I might need to order another few. Even the wife enjoyed it and I'm having with some grana and Skippy super chunk

My usual favourites California cabs like Stags Leap and Caymus.
I picked up a Washington Cab, 2016 Seven Cellars and was blown away at the quality. For $22 CDN, it carries well above its price point... Needless to say, I bought a case... |

What’s in the menu and is there a budget? I usually go with one 750 ml bottle / 2 people with a bottle or two in reserve just in case. So maybe 5 bottles if everyone drinks.

There’s usually steaks and lamb at this place. Mostly game meat. Last time I brought 2 and we finished it. That was enough for 5 people with 2 glasses or so each. I’m thinking 2-3 this time should be good. Not looking to get drunk. Prefer to stay around $60-80 a bottle.

There’s a lot of good wine in that price range, some mentioned in this thread. For Cabernet, I found Don Melchor at Costco for $80 vs. $100 elsewhere. Caymus always a sold choice. I mentioned Joseph Phelps earlier in the thread. D.R. Stephens is another I think is pretty good. I haven’t had that much Amarone so I can’t make a specific recommendation, but it should be a good choice. I’d also recommend looking into Brunellos. The 2015 vintage is supposed to be outstanding - not sure if in stores yet but it may be. There are a lot of good Brunellos and several in this price range. Terralsole and Il Poggione should be relatively easy to find. I’m sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

I had an Amarone recently, and it was very pricey and I was not impressed. Now we drank it after a good Barolo so that may have contributed to the lack of joy especially when price considered.
I much rather a good Barolo or Brunello |

Did my monthly visit to total wine today and picked up a nice selection of California and Italian wines.
Most are repeat buys, but also mix in a few new options to try each time. These are all in the $15 - $50 range at TW and go great with almost any occasion. My recommendation for a great every day table wine is the Olema Pinot Noir, best $20 bottle you can find. nothing more fun than using a shopping cart in a liquor store...
