I love my ICE vehicles, and my EV, and I'm not going to pretend that either are saving the world, they're both bad in their own way. The big picture reality is that personal transportation is unsustainable for the human race. Unfortunately in the US our society is completely dependent upon it.

You should only consider a hybrid if it works for you. Don’t consider one based on the predilections of the ultra wealthy. Why would you ever do that?

Tesla closely links manufacturing with demand since they don’t have a dealer system and you order online.

Musk doesn't exactly give a specific answer probably avoiding the big question if it could really happen.

We recently had several Teslas with no one in them run over children leaving school. Total carnage. Then the cars caught on fire and that was all anyone would focus on. And I said,”can someone think of the children?” But they wouldn’t.

Why experts say falling EV prices could actually hinder widespread adoption
Fri, Dec 8 2023
Prices of used electric vehicles are down roughly 30% year over year, according to market research studies using data from September and October.
The cheaper prices might bode well for buyers, but they raise concerns that low resale values could hurt EV adoption among mainstream consumers. The falling prices also add fuel to a debate over whether EV demand is faltering.
But a car’s residual or resale value is a big factor in determining the total cost of owning it. Edmunds, which provides a range of automotive data services, said in its Q3 2023 Used Vehicle Report.

New US rules on Chinese batteries could push up price of electric cars
Hong Kong CNN —
The US government has announced new regulations that aim to keep Chinese batteries out of cars sold in the United States, a move that could push up the price of electric vehicles for American drivers.
That’s because new guidelines from the US Treasury, Internal Revenue Service and Department of Energy prohibit the use of parts made or assembled by what they call “foreign entities of concern” (FEOC). The term refers to companies based in China, Russia, North Korea or Iran, or with at least 25% voting interest, board membership or ownership by a government of one of those countries.
Starting next month, following a 30-day period for public comment, vehicles with these components will no longer be eligible for a full $7,500 US tax credit, which allows consumers to save money when buying a new electric car.
Currently, of more than 103 EV models for sale in America, only about 20 vehicles qualify for some or all of the tax credit, according to Bozzella.

When you're buying an ev you're technically sitting on a lot of li ion and commiting to improving the climate and getting a subsidy and cheap motoring .
Payback is that you got to own the car for a while as that's environment friendly too and also as resale values will be terrible.
Overall its fair.

I take Sundays to catch up on Financial news. I think the EV industry is going to have an especially bad time in 2024. Between the US finally growing a pair in regards to China (or Union protectionism ) and a tightening money situation on credit it is less than optimal. I think European auto companies are going to take the blunt of this due to loss of "Free Government Cheese"
Auto loan rejections are at an all-time high
Rejection rates for auto loan applications reached a record high in 2023, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Consumer Expectations Credit Access Survey, jumping from 5.2% in 2022 to 11%.
Prices for new and used cars are still elevated and higher interest rates mean car payments have increased, too. The average monthly payment for a new car, according to Experian, was $726 in the third quarter of 2023, up from $701 in 2022 and $617 in 2021.
