I didn't know that. Well I don't miss him. He is a complete annoyance when the issue of guns is discussed.

I have a question for Sedan_Clan

I was driving with my wife north to Prescott, AZ from Phoenix a few weeks ago and I cut off someone doing 70 in a 75 in the left lane. My wife flipped him off after we cut him off (she has road rage) and he followed us, tailgated us, etc. until I lost him in the hills when you leave Phoenix.

45 min later - when I got off of our exist - a highway patrol cop pulled me over. I rolled down my windows and he told me to go sit in the front seat of his car.

He asked me 'what happened back there with another driver' and I knew immediately what this was about.

Long story short, the cop did a conference call with that driver. He didn't allow me to talk back to the other driver so I just heard his story. He then went out and spoke with my wife to assume see if my story was corroborated.

A second cop showed up who was the cop who received the initial report.

They let us go after 35 min. Both cops were super cool and I was very nice and cooperating.

Is this normal operating procedure for reports of reckless drivers? I thought the conference call thing was a bit weird but whatever.

Hell no it's not. That's a weird practice if I've ever heard one. In addition, it's not like the officer could've written a ticket for the infraction he didn't witness anyway (…unless he was trained and citing for cause following a collision).

He told me he couldn't write me a ticket (I knew that also) but he did say if the other driver had a dash cam that could be used against me and the other driver could take me to court....

Take you to court for what exactly?!? What is he a victim of? What loss(es) could he articulate?!? Based on your story I would wager that's a big fat "Negative Ghostrider"….and that officer doesn't quite know what he's talking about or he was just trying to scare you.

My guess is that professional courtesy may have been involved, but I don't work in the LEO field.

In other words, tell your wife not to flip the bird to off-duty highway patrol officers.....

That's what I was thinking also. I even asked the cop if he was a police offer and he said 'he didn't know.'

And yes, believe me I know. She has extreme road rage

He was a K9 officer and appeared to be a veteran. Really cool guy tbh. I wasn't nervous or anything, I didn't think he was out to get me.

Just an unusual situation

It doesn't sound like the other driver was an off duty officer. I think things would've played out differently if he were, plus he would've made that known via conference call. Trust me on that!

Yeah - he didn't make that known. And he was driving a red Toyota Highlander (older model) doing 70 in a 75 in the left lane. Doesn't add up to being an off duty.

Actually we drive in the carpool lane solo, usually have dark tinted windows and roll around with no plates. Driving slowly in the #1 lane isn't really our staple. Lol!

I've heard comments like this from OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) friends.

Being in SoCal, have you participated in the SRTF? I follow them on Instagram and it's actually pretty interesting on the busts they do.
