I wish that you guys could give guys who drive with these lights big tickets, or at least let them know how ridiculous they are. What kind of road conditions actually require these?

I see so many cars here in CA with obnoxious lights. Sometimes they are blinding. These drivers are rude and only care how they look and not how it affects other drivers.

It takes A LOT of police encounters to find that one to post online to demonstrate a first amendment violation. By and large, policemen/women throughout the country know what they can and can't do; what's an illegal violation of the 1st and what's a legal violation of the 1st. The outliers are just that……outliers.

Surprisingly…or not, I get asked - by civilians during calls for service - to violate someone else's 1st amendment rights on a daily basis. People truly have no clue. They want me to essentially kidnap people, illegally seize people, etc…..and they get upset when I simply tell them that I cannot do what they are asking me to do.

You mean drive on the public roads with those lights ON, right?

If you want to see what they are good for, feel free to come visit my neck of the woods on a new moon. Hope you like banjo music.....

Was wondering, Sedan_Clan, if you or any of your colleagues will be working security for the Super Bowl?

Noticed on the news today they mentioned Sheriff's dept. as well as L.A. Police will be working security.

Many of my partners on the department will, but I won't. I'll be off that day and I try my best to stay away from stadium and Rose Parade overtime. I do my overtime at the station on Wednesday nights and Friday nights from midnight to 6am.

Are you expecting any riots if the Rams lose? Or if they win?

That might be just an Oakland thing.

The Oakland fans tend to be extremely unruly. I don't think we'll see that if the Rams lose. I am rooting for the underdog Bengals though.

I'm happy to see that, but the other part of me immediately thought that might be a good time to commit a robbery.

Once on the way to New Orleans with friends we came upon 2 semi trucks going about the same speed, and blocking the road in the process. This went on for several miles (the truck in the left lane was going faster, but the truck in the right lane had more torque, so every time there was a hill it'd catch back up).

My father in law worked for Overnight at the time, so I knew about penalties for trucks speeding, so I figured I'd just pass on the right when the opportunity presented itself.

I got into the right lane, and when the next long on-ramp came I used it to pass the trucks on the right.

20 miles or so down the Interstate I get pulled over by an angry police officer threatening to take me to jail for driving recklessly on the shoulder. He had me out on the highway while he spoke to the other people in the car as well. I honestly had no idea what was going on.

When I finally figured it out I explained my side of the story, he took my license (thinking I'd have no fun in New Orleans without it), and let me go.

Since that time I have read that in such cases both parties must go to court, and it seems like what the officer did by taking the witness' side, and my license, was illegal.

1. Was what I did illegal (using the onramp to pass)? It was a LONG on-ramp.
2. Was the HP in the right to take my license?
3. Can a police officer take a witness' side without seeing it happen?
