Nice shot, DC. The critters should be glad you're not a hunter.

Thanks.

If this weren't a wildlife sanctuary, it'd be a lot harder for me to get these shots.

Saw 15 bucks this morning, all but one 4x4 or larger. Will post one later.

Our rut is still a week or two away. I'll probably run up to Rocky Mountain National Park to try to see some action. I also like going in early October, after the harems are established, to see the "winners". Those guys are always very impressive. I once saw a guy with a harem off 30 and if just raised his head and bugled, the other bulls would run.

Agreed. Awesome shot.

Was just thinking how much lighter my backpack would be with an X-T1 and a couple lenses and a MacBook Air rather than my 2 DLSRs, 5 lenses, and my MacBook Pro. Your images are making a strong case for equipment divestiture and reinvestment. I just wish Fuji had some longer FL lenses.

Maybe you could at least make one of those cameras mirrorless, with a really good zoom and one prime for it and a long lens for the DSLR and a medium to long zoom.

80 to 90% of my shots are 500mm to 1,000mm, so that means at least one DSLR, but I am thinking more about that 2d body.

I carry 7D, 5D MkIII, 15/f2.8, 24-105/f4, 70-200/f4, 500/f4, 1.4x and 2.0x TCs. That certainly gives me full focal length range (although I'm Jonesing for a 600mm to replace the 500mm).

Is there a full-frame mirrorless right that'd cover my 15mm to 400mm range?

I'm afraid to think about replacing those L-series lenses with equivalents. $$$

Of course, matching batteries, cards and accessories has its advantages.

Dave

I love my 15mm fish-eye for these kinds of "big sky" shots. I de-fished this one. Also, note the great sun-star that I get with a small aperture straight at the sun:

These are all valid concerns and in large part what has kept me from jumping. I do lots of long FL work as well and I love my "specialty" lenses that it seems only Canon has, like my 24mm TS-E, the magical 135mm f2, and the super tele's. So I couldn't give up Canon entirely. But for WA and near tele stuff, a mirrorless would suffice. I'm just not sure I want two systems.

The only full frame mirror less that I know of right now is the Sony A7 series. With the proper adapter you can use all of your current lenses. However, the body and adapter weigh nearly as much as a 6D. Perhaps Fuji will surprise everyone next month at Photokina.

Same goes for me. I really like my Nex-6 for wandering around San Francisco and other things, but for wildlife, trains, planes, and automobiles, it just doesn't cut it. The EVF can't keep up with moving objects, and just like Dave said, the focal lengths just aren't there with mirror-less / M4/3 yet.
